Back in the 1980's when Joe Painter was living in Chicago, I bought two American Bulldogs off of him. They were supposedly out of his famous Sgt. Rock dog. I later acquired a few more pure Painter dogs. All turned out great, maturing at about 85 pounds. Two were proven catch dogs in Florida, all good with kids, and all lived a long healthy life. As far as I can see the Painter/Margentina bloodline has not been maintained as has just about vanished. I know that Don Matthew of Konfederate Kennels has a stud he bought of the Margentinas. Throwback Kennels was breeding them for a while, but I heard they dropped out (not sure that is true). Does anyone know of any kennels that have maintained the Painter bloodline?

Margentinas still breed. Some of the Painter blood was used and crossed to Bama Boy, Tates / Stovers Dutchess Lady, and other more similar dogs to what Painter was already working with. In general they comprise the "Performance Blood" ABs. There are several kennels working with this family and crosses.

When Mike Margentina started breeding again a few years back Joe had given him the only dog he had left. He was an inbred dog that Mike bred to a gyp from Danny Barnes that was Painter/Scott on top and Deets on the bottom. Mike also bred that male to one of Alan's gyps that went back to his old stuff (no Crusher). That produced Don's dog and Alan's dog (Mikey). Joe and his son did get back a couple of dogs that were supposedly bred down fom his dogs from out west. But, they ended up returning them as they did not suit them. So, really, if you're talking heavy to pure Painter blood...there's not really too much out there to choose from. Now Mike did breed the number 2 out of that old dog that Joe gave him...so you can find it...just diluted to varying extents.

I've got this 3 yr old good n heavy Margentina gyp....I'd really like to find a Painter/Margentina stud but don't really know of any from what I can remember, if I found one it might make a good breeding-but as far as I have learned there's plenty good suds of different types of great lines that will get the job done, but preserving the pedigree and keeping the gene pool going is something I'd like to be a part of.....so any detail on a stud that would keep a tight pedigree of Painter/Margentina- I'd like to know about em http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/american_bulldog/dog.html?id=1264930-american-legendz-country-strong-b |

Thats a nice bred female you have there. American Legendz has a good hand full of very nice studs. Also, a couple different bloodlines with those families in different concentrations. If you are close to him Id recommend going to see what he has and what would work for your needs.

No harm intended....may be able to find something off of fred bred to another performance bred dog.

Alan Scott`s Mikey dog go`s back to Sargent Rock 5 times and is bred to a Crusher daughter now , Owl Hollow Kennels . I have a dog bred the same way ,making a dog really smart an listens.

I have a young female line bred to Scott's Crusher line that I'd like to breed to a leggy, working catch dog. I'd like for the stud to be 25" or taller. My female is almost a year old and I'm just staring her. She's going to be good. Looking for options. It will be next year before I breed her.

This Danny Barnes feller, is he still around and if so, do you have a contact number for him. I've got a friend here in SE Tn that has some Brack blood along with some old Barnes stuff. They are "the kind' I have been looking for. |

Hank is in France now. That should be a very nice pup! Don has some pups now off of his current catch dog which is Hank's son bred to a female that catches and has a few brothers who are catch dogs. |

I hunted with hank from when he was a very young catchdog. Hank was/is a great catch dog. Ive caught alot of hogs behind hank and have alot of stories from that dog. If i had the money i would of got ol hank myself. That dog literally has some phenomal wind....i don't think ive ever seen hank out of breath. Could run all day. I dont know how many times ive said to myself"...wish hank was here"
Dons got some great dogs...... crow and hank are some of the most gifted bulldogs ive ever seen.

We are partial owners of cornerstone bulldogs out of burleson tx. We breed performance AB (scott type) go check us out at www.cornerstonebulldogs.comMighty large price tag there if I wasn't mistaken I d almost think their dogos by the $ is this typical? Just curious the max good bred bulldog pup I ve seen went for around $500-600 top end and median being more around $200-300 and that's full blooded proven parents type Bulldogs with peds to prove it.
