Alapaha... a good dog will shine like a diamond on a hog farm like that.
What will your dogs do on 8,000 acres of pine plantation that may or may not even have a hog on it? A place where you spend half the day trying to get one started and when you do get ready for a long race. Takes a good dog to bay a hog there... doesn't take a real good dog to bay one when you turn out on a whole herd.
Well, well, well, that might be a different story there Mike!!!

I just had to throw this out there but some years back I hunted with some folks that didn't understand the game but had sure enough spots and my dogs would strike 95% of the time no joke I thought my dogs were the number 2s nobody had better but when I got tired and went and found my own spots i realized my 24 karat gold dogs were a piece cause it took us. At least a month to catch anything bigger then a toilet paper roll sized hog but after a month or a lil more of Russian rulet with my mutts wouldn't u know they figured it out none were bred right just strays or dogs from ur typical guys that bred for looks and color u know how it is but the hogs were different if the dogs bred right they learn fast if they're not and u hunt them 3-5 days a week I think most will figure it out if you and ur dogs adapt to the situation then ur doing ok whether it takes a week or a month the hogs we had 2 years ago were not the hogs we had this year but the poodles adapted

I think all the talk about range is something people come with after the garmin , if you gotta a good dog he is gonna range to where the game is as for as the long range dogs passing up hogs , that's a cull
lol Yep consistency is a better way to go no matter the range!

Well judge and cool blue it sounds like you guys have adapted well to your enviroment and I can appreciate your efforts but I fear if there ever came a time you were to move and begin hunting other areas you would have to re-adapt your style again whereas the type of dogs I prefer travel well!
I'm done debating but thanks for the entertainment the last couple days. Lol

Onocee your right if I took my dogs to wide open country they would not fare as well and I would have to adapt to it. That why I have always said a good hound is worth his weight in gold on his game of choice. Don't mean I wouldn't like to give it a shot. Glad to see I could fill your void of entertainment we might could be friends one day with all this arguing lol see ya down the road buddy

Chit got deep quick. I'm glad I don't post as many times I have missed hogs everybody would tear my as$ up about me and my couch dogs.
I am looking to go hunt with any one that has hogs, don't care about long range Or short range or they have what I am looking for in a dog. I just want to catch a hog! I got hogs but can't catch one to feed my family.. So I go Buy it at the grocery store.
The weekend is here let's get off the internet and hunt some game Spend time with family and friends YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE!!!
Thanks for the entertainment..
