I need to swap brands cause the heel of my feet are starting to hurt...I wear EE and like cowboy style boots and must have steel toe...
cushiony and with a heel...what are some good brands and styles? thanks

I wear justins, but they could put a better insole in them. Other than them, redwings or chipawas r good, especislly for flat footed folks, but their insoles r great, but so r their prices, which is why i suck it up n stay with justin

sounds like a wide range of good boots...I appreciate the input...
a friend was telling me there is a redwing store in the Houston area that fits the boot to your foot and then they insert an insole...supposed to be great for the feet...Charles...I am a little flat footed side so maybe...
my feet were doing just fine and I swapped to a Mexican boot that looked pretty nice and was a tough boot and after the third pair I need to swap to a high quality boot that is easy on the foot...

Can't go wrong with Redwings. I go through about 2 pairs of cowboy boots a year. Most of them today are made in China and are junk. The last 2 pair of Ariats and 2 pair of Justin's were Chinese made junk. The heel or sole fell apart in a few months on each pair. I had a nice comfortable pair that I kept nice for my Sunday best dress boots. The damn heel fell off them while walking down grocery store aisle. My current longest running pair are Redwings.

Always been a Redwing man myself(1132's). We've got a Redwing store up in Knoxville. Went in there and was surprised to see how many different pairs were made in China, mostly the lace up boots. The 1132's I buy at the local COOP still have a made in America tag though  Most comfortable, longest lasting boots I've ever worn. They have become a little pricey over the years, right at $200 dollars up here. |

Warren that's awful, I still thought all Redwings were USA made. I just had to go look through my boot collection and see what's made where. Wolverine steel toe work boots made in China, Danner hunting boots made in china, Redhead hunting boots made in china, Ariat cowboy (work) boots made in china, Ariat cowboy (dress) boots made in china, Rocky snake boots made in Dominican Republic. That's damn sad. What the hell do the Chinese know about making boots? I only own two pair of US made boots my old ass lace up Redwings and a nice pair of Nocona dress boots my wife bought me for our anniversary.

Redwing will fit the boot to your foot. Yep, everything on the shelves are made in China, just about. But most folks want walmart pricing on everything they buy. So to get artificially deflated prices, you must have merchandise built with basicly slave labor. Of course, then all your manufacturing base disappears, and the people still working are paying all the govt programs for the folks are no longer have jobs. So we are paying cheap prices, but exhorbitant taxes. I' d rather pay for the product that my neighbor produces and let the red chinese pound sand. Thats my rant on chinese products.,, sorry

AMEN to that....we want low prices so we go to Wal-Mart...mom and pop stores that were in operation for many years went under when Wal-Mart came into town... then we were sold out to the other countries like Japan, China, India...etc...etc...we gain temporarily...but we lose quite a bit in the long haul...the other countries standard of living improves...but ours will suffer...my feelings on the subject... back then with the mom and pop operations we had credit at the country store and the hardware store in town...sometimes we bought a 1/2 box of shotgun shells and/or 3 or 4 bullets for the deer rifle...times change... |

Double H are still made in the good ole USA, but I wear Twisted X for both steel toe and non. I have a very wide foot and they are the most comfortable I found hands down. Their insoles are not very good, so I just swap em' out when they are new. Cavenders and Boot Barn sell Twisted X.

I have used about every kind of work boot out there. My most recent pair is Double H and I won't buy another pair, because they're hell breaking in and the sole and heel will bust apart easy. Ariat work hogs were pretty comfortable, with the new sole they use, but the time frame for em lasting is only a little better then double H.
I won't wear Justin's just cuz they kill my feet if I'm standing up a long time, but the longest running and most wore out boot I still own that I pull out when my boots are wet or bad dirty, is a pair of Doc Marten's. I bought this pair in 2005 and still have em, and they look like hell, but they go on my feet. I don't know what the quality is now on em.

like some of ya'll I have tried just about every brand out there looking for the most comfortable due to the amount of walking I do in the refinery and well because honestly who wants to wear uncomfortable boots all day. I made the switch from justin to H&H then to ariat red top square toes and have been stuck on the ariats ever since. It started because I came home from work (working nights) and took my boots off and my other 1/2 decided they stunk so she put em outside while I was asleep......well I was in the middle of a turnaround and was flat wore out so I slept til around 4 (having to be at work by 6) well I go to put my boots on and they are nowhere to be found.....long story short the offending smell that my other 1/2 moved em outside for was apparently irresistable to the 4 month old currs pups in the back yard as they had a great day of boot eatin while I was sleepin.........so ticked off and in a hurry I hauled tail to cavenders in bmt cussin the whole time thinking about the blisters i would soon be dealin with........ Boy was I wrong, the ariat redtops were and still are the most comfortable boots i've worn to date, when the first pair wore out I went and bought 2 more, I wear em everywhere..... work, deer hunting, hog hunting, around town. They are worth their weight in gold to me! hell im wearin em now  |

I have tried all of the different brands of boots also, the best pair that I have worn was White's. Very uncomfortable before they are broken in, after they are broken in, they are great. They are my everyday boot. I am sure they make a steel toe. They cost a bit more than others, but I like them for my everyday work boot.

My dad has been flat footed most of his life and he swore by redwing. The type of boots he ordered had a higher than normal heel and he put a comfy insoles and didnt have any complaints and he could get a couple yrs out of a pair and he was a foundry worker and that foundry environment is murder on boots |

I went to 2 redwing stores in Houston Yesterday and didn't find anything I liked in the first store...As we were driving to the second store we passed up a "Cavender's Boot Store" and I thought if I didn't find anything in the second store I would stop there and buy a pair of whatever was their best boot...
Long store short...I liked a pair at the second Redwing Store and it was on sale because it was going to be discontinued, regular 250 but on sale for 175...I didn't care about price but it was a good deal...they had me step on a pad and told exactly my size including width and also told about my pressure points...my left heel that has been hurting quite a bit showed up as my worst pressure point...for another 50 bucks they sold me the recommended insoles for my new boots and feet type...luckily for me it was the only pair in that store that I liked and was able to buy exactly for my size...
thanks for all the input...
My son loves the Ariats as someone already mentioned on here...
And yes...the leather is made and conditioned in the USA but put together in China...
