My dogos amaze me at times,not because there mine,just because there that good.lol i have 2 that if let run on ground both will find and stop hogs,its nice to no,that if iam a lil ways away,and them 2 are caught i know there ok.if it takes me awhile to get there.have seen them bay the boar untill they hear me coming and then catch.so if dogo bays cull him.lol not in my book,same two dogs you turn them to a bay,and you have a caught hog..

To each their own and if they make you happy so be it. However by standards they are not supposed to bay LOL. Like I said though if your happy feed them LOL. |

ColeCross...I agree with that type of dog...one that has smarts...a true running catch dog that is caught on a 250 pound boar for an hour probably will not live long...will get beat down or cut up and for sure in the summer time heat the dog will probably die of heat exposure...but catch dogs that catch and stop one and bay it until they are told to catch again or catch upon arrival is about the way I would want mine...the few true running catch dogs I was around didn't make it past 18/20 months...those that catch and then let go and bay as long as the hog stays put is a good dog to have... |

I was sick wen i first heard my male bay,i got the gun and walked in to him,he was baying just like the curs was,he seen me he drilled hog caught ear,and layed aganst hog,i new then,i would catch a lot hogs with him,so i set out to get a female,took awhile to find one,and i started her with my male and she did wat he did,now as they have hunted awhile together now,she has more range.he was like 12 mon wen he started .

I have been working my dogo pups on thier nose. They are coming along quite nicely but finding dogo kennels from true hunters is a hard thing to find.

I was at the hunt test on Sunday and was surprised at how the Dogo had improved. I saw a few dogs that had never seen a pig before that caught clean and walked away without a scratch on a boar that had cut more experienced dogs that had seen plent of pigs before. The first hunt test I went to 9 or 10 years ago had a bunch of white Bullmastiff looking dogs that caught with zero skill or intelligence. So I think the bred is slowly improving.

I don't claim to be an expert on the Dogo. I will say that 2 of the most impressive catch dogs I have seen were Dogos. They are owned by Taylor Christian. TColt is his handle on this board. If you get an opportunity to see these 2 dogs work, it is a sight to see.

I got my DOGO and then started hunting. Before I got him I had no idea any of this existed. That alone should tell you something. .n

That was right at 8 yrs ago. I was there then and a BIG improvement has happened since then. I also judged then and I can honestly say I did not pass almost the same amount of dogs then as now. Although I did see more dogs try it this time then last. I don't know maybe I am picky on what I want out of a hunting dogo and why in the 14 yrs I have had them only had two litters LOL. |
