Is there some kind of setting that's turning it off after a certain amount of time, maybe? That thing has so much crap in it, I don't know half of what it can do. I've had mine over a year now and haven't had that problem.

agree with mike. it sounds like there is a feature that turns it off, kinda like setting a computer up to hibernate after X amount of time.

Mine starting doing that last trip out. I also have Birdseye on SD card. It is not a setting of any sort...it acts like it locks up and then the screen fades away just like he is describing. Next thing you know it is starting back up....My unit did this 3 or 4 times in a 3-4 hour trip last week.

Colby that was the first time I have used it since I installed birds eye and updated it. Maybe I need to try updating it one more time.

I would first try an update. Garmin puts out an update almost every other month or three at the most. Some units it doesn't effect and others have issues.
Also if you are running topo of any sort other than the 100k US that came on it this can cause issues, I know from 1st hand experience. I loaded my SE 24K Topo because it is more detailed than the 100K that comes on the Alpha and it keep locking up like you are talking about. I spent literally HOURS on the phone with Garmin, tried different SD cards, deleted all Birdseye and reloaded it and nothing worked but they insisted it was not the unit. I "disabled" the 100K US Topo and I have not had any issues since then, thankfully. But I do keep mine updated.
Also on another note if you have both Alpha and Astro units with Birdseye on them this can cause issues but mainly on the Astro. If the Birdseye was downloaded for the Astro and you put it on an Astro and Alpha no issues, normally. I downloaded Birdseye for my Alpha then also put that same Birdseye on my Astro units and issues, the Astro would not read the Birdseye image if it was downloaded for an Alpha unit. Again this is not from Garmin, this is what I have figured out. I have an Alpha unit and 2 Astro units that I run with my DC-40, DC-50, TT-10 and TT-15 collars.
Good Luck

Garmin also told me DO NOT USE a "high speed" micro SD card, it can cause issues. Just a FYI.
