Goofy was not a dog. Atleast according to Disney he wasn't.

Pluto and Goofy are most certainly both cur dogs. Pluto is a high yeller simpleton, lives to please and whatever is needed he give it a college try. I've seen Pluto tree animals, flush birds, point, retrieve, track and so forth. He got used as a bird dog more oft than not when he was a using dog, but only because that has always been a dog sport that Americans find mainstream. I do believe I remember him being a cow dog in one Mickey Mouse short.

Goofy is absolutely a standard Black and Tan cur! He's "goofy", awkward and clumsy, but ultimately always reliable and noble. His Nearest costar aside from Mickey Mouse is most often Clarabel the cow and is often animated dancing with Clarabel or otherwise engaged in shenanigans involving saving her in early black and white toons where he's prominently featured.

Throw all this in with the knowledge that ol Walt carried a laymans knowledge of Florida and the people of the central swamp country. He inevitably crossed paths with plenty of crackers and their curs! The evidence points that there's no denying, they are curs!!!  Cheesy

According to Disney Pluto was in fact a bloodhound. He was first shown in an episode called chain gang where he tracked down Mickey after his escape. He later was named rover and placed as Minnie's dog before finally being placed beside Mickey as his companion and best pal Pluto.

I will try to find the memo describing what goofy is suppose to be.

The way I understand he was suppose to be a beagle.

I know this is a crazy topic but I have a 3yr old that is nuts about dogs. So we get to enjoy the normal viewing material of the age group while leaning towards dog involvement. There is only so much I can watch them without comeing up with questions. Lol
