Those of you that have hunted for some time and thought you had a pretty good thing going. Have you had a dog come along that made you completely change how you thought or hunted or bred dogs!

No- but I went away from what I have just to realize that what I already have was winning enough for me not to look elsewhere.
Those "Game Changers" sometime look real good for the first quarter and then fade; consistenty is what wins in my mind.

I got lucky and bought a female not knowing how well she was bred. She's produced some really good good dogs. In a few years her blood will be in all my dogs.

Well if you hunt with enough people and all different kinds of dogs. Big bottom long range short range fast track open rough loose that's when you can put a worth on a dog does he hang or out do all of the above drop after drop is he the one striking and finishing the game of choice. That kinda when ya know you got something special

Yes Joel I changed years ago, I don't think you ever hunted with my old gyp sister. She was fast, medium range with endless bottom, and super loose baying style. She could run a track as fast as she could run, and she could wind equally as well. Prior to her I hunted short range stock dogs, with super baying style, they were not ruff at all but knew how to make one face up, and they caught on command. Now I want all her hunting attributes, and the old stock dog baying style. Every dog I have is close related to her and her sire, numerous times over. She was bred to one of these old family stock dogs 15 years ago and this cross has suited me.

My game changer was breeding to Hammonds Scotch Gator. I bred to him twice and both breedings produced awesome catch dogs. As for the yellow dogs, B. Cornett has the ticket for long range, ruff as all get out BMC. His blood has been the game changer for me to really respect a good long range dog.
