We picked up an Amerigo gyp that's a half sister to my PJ gyp. We were tossing around ideas on what to cross her to because my main choice isn't a dog yet, and I'm not counting him in the running until he makes a dog. We we're thinking about crossing her over a game bred APBT. I'll post pics tomorrow of the dogs in question. Opinions wanted...

She's a good CD. 5 years old, been on countless hogs, catches hard and fast everytime. No health defects, no aggressive issues, no problems as far as I'm concerned. Great handle. She's out of the same line in trying to carry on for UglyDogRanch and their BigWhiteDogs. They are Amerigo. Half American bulldog half Dogo. Doodle isn't as tightly bred as PJ and her son Dirt are.

What did Krystal and Thomas recommend?

Well the ideal cross is putting my male named Joe Dirte' over Doodle. Dirt is out of PJ x Cotton. He is only 10 months right now though... So we were going to cross Doodle over something that we could use as an out cross to the Dirt x Doodle pups if that even ever happens. He's gotta a lot to prove to me before he's even considered in the running though.

I would think going back to an AB or Dogo would be the thing to do...

Who's Doodle's parents?   I'm thinking that may be the dog James Reasoner had and bred to my Zeus one time.

I'm sorry, she is out of Pickle x Zeus. She's PJs half sister. Pickle is out of Fat Jessie (Full AB) and Jonah (Cotton and Zeus's Brother).

My main choices are a full Dogo that's a proven well seasoned CD or a full AB that's the same stature. Was hoping a few of the known owners of said type of dogs would comment on this thread and maybe provide some options. This line starting to really show its power and worth to me. PJ is a no quit gyp. Very good wind, leggy, and plenty of power and smarts. Dirt (Cotton x PJ) is super smart, but still lots of puppy left in him at 11 months. Doodle is the missing link in the plan now. She should be able to open up the next few breedings in the line. If Dirt will end up making a breed worthy dog then the line has lots of potential in my opinion. Beautiful dogs that can be family dogs and working dogs in one package. Blake wants to try and open up some Hybrid Vigor and breed in a game bred APBT to Doodle to take the line in a different direction. I do not doubt the cross one bit... BUT it takes the line from not having any pit in it to being half pit. In talks with Krystal, Thomas, and James, that's not exactly what they planned for the line. Just trying to do right by the breeders and the dogs is all. I'm open to discussion and opinions. I think putting all options on the table is the only way to come to a good conclusion.

This is Devil. He is full Dogo out of Italy. But the breeder is proud of him and wants a pretty penny for his stuff. But he is a specimen for sure.

This is the type of APBT Blake wants to cross over one of the Amerigo gyps. What do y'all think about that cross?

In general, the dogs will get smaller. Even generations down from that cross.

i agree with scott on the loss of size if you go the apbt route. i would suggest you try to find a half ab half dogo unrelated to the dogs you have.

One way to approach a breeding is by looking at your gyp and asking yourself what she lacks or would you like improved. That's usually my main consideration when outcrossing. If she was slow I would look for something that added some speed without losing too much of anything else. If you wanted more size or strength I would find another big cross like Gary mentioned or maybe a nice big Am bulldog. Just a little food for thought. Good luck with your breeding regardless.

A guy on here named Peachcreek has a male AB named PeeWee that appears to have everything you ( or any of us) could want from a Catchdog. You can see pics if the dog by going to the Hog Dogs section and searching Peachcreek. Look for a post titled PeeWee / Tink pups.
