Just got a kershaw knockout pocket knife. Its one of there USA made knives. I was wandering of any of yall could recommend a good sharpener. Not a stone or wet rock. Quite frankly i aint worth a $&#@ with one of those. My dad on the other hand is a knife sharpening machine with one. Anyways im pretty rough on a blade. I eat most everything i kill and skin it with whatever knife i have in my pocket. Im looking for a good sharpener i could use to keep this knife good and sharp. The steel is sandvik 14c28n if that makes a diference to ya. This is a good usa made pocket knife to if anybody is in the market for a good one. Thanks for any advice .

If you can't sharpen it, you shouldn't own the knife just kidding with you. That was pun at the guy that replied on the wormer topic that said "if you can't afford to take the dogs to the vet, a person shouldn't own them". Another good knife is benchmades? they have a free sharpening on all their cutting utensils. Just mail it to them and they will sharpen it and mail it back. So if u bought 2, when 1 gets dull, send it back and start using the other 1 and swap it out once it gets dull and send that 1 in and use the other. As for a sharpener, some folks recomend the knife works electric sharpener. I was impressed with the sharpener, but some on here say it's a cats meow.

I know that's right. I knew somebody was gonna get on me about not using the tried and true wet rock. And you are right them benchmade knives are good ones. A little pricey for me. I ordered this kershaw and a kabar usmc in foiliage green and man is it slick. Also a USA made knife. Sheath is Taiwan though.

that is good steel and not hard to sharpen like some of the other stainless around. it was created for razor blades .im usin some in AEBL which is the same 14c28n and i realy like it works great for kitchen knives.you can get the blade geometry down to almost zero edge. lansky makes a good set of sharpeners that ya cant mess up with;

Yea, thats it. I could remember the exact name of it. Georgia, i can get benchmade for 30% off for being a veteran AND the factory is right up the road from me in portland oregon. U find the knife u want, send me the money and ill get it for u and mail it to u. My dad used to hav an old arkansas wet stone that would lay a hair floating edge on his eyebrand knives and would sking 3-4 deer including busting the pelvic bone. Them eyebrands are good german steel, but hard to get an edge on if it was jacked up. I cant find a good arkansas wet stone anywhere, SO, a med course/fine wet rock that the army tool USED to own somehow ended up at my house. It work so so, and will put a hair cutting edge on 1, but no where near as good as my dads old arkansas stone. Tuskbuster, what do u use to start an edge and to put the final edge on the knives u build?

Charles i might just take you up on that offer. My friend has a website called extremelifeoutfitters.com , she has a bunch of stones and stuff on there. Seems like i saw some called Arkansas stones. You should check her out anyway. Shes a paramedic friend of mine and a hog hunter as well. She's got tons of stuff on there. And tuskbuster I'd like to know to how you go about your blades. Thank yall for the advice. I dont reckon I'll try a workshop because if a man can ruin a blad with one you can bet im that man. Also is there a specific lanskeys you wpuld reccomend? I'll just be sharpening pocket sized knives with it.

i start my huntin blade edges on my grinder on low speed with a 220 grit belt and finsh em on diamond stonesup to 600 grit.and then strop; ,y kitchen knives are all done on diamond . dont remember but you can pic up the lansky set at bass pro and the likes for around 50 bucks, main thing is dont let your edges get in bad condition to start and most are easy to maintain a good edge.

I had a laskys set up. Bought it at the px in korea. Used it a cpl times and had no luck with it. I did better on a flat rock i found along the base fence line. Iv nvr had any luck with them diamond stones either, but the knife i was trying to sharpen was all jacked up. The guy used it as a screwdriver and prybar and 1 of my knives wasnt in the best but dang sure not as bad as iv worked on for others and just couldnt get that diamond to edge it right. That aquired stone from the army has honed out a many a knife, heck 1 was a s&w thumb assist tanto blade that looked like he tried hacking through a steel plate with it. 6hrs on that army stone with the corse side and 2hrs on the fine side and it would float arm hair. After folks saw what i did to his, i had 6 more knoves on my desk the nxt night when i came to work. I charged $50 a knife while i was in afghanistan and had several repeat customers

I heard that. We go to a flea market on some weekends to see what kind of deals we can find. There use to be this old black man he looked like he was 100 years old. He was always selling cast iron stuff and junk kitchen knives lol. But he had a couple of diferent machines that were so rusty if they werent running youd swear there was no way they worked. But that ole feller would use those rusty machines to put the best edge on a knife ive ever seen for 2 bucks. ( i always gave him 5 ). He dont come out there anymore but he sure done a good job.

He might hav been 100, which may be why he aint there no more. At 101, he got to old to heave those rusty machines in the bed of his tck.

I have a lil cheap lansky pocket sharpener I carry in my hunting bag. It's not the best but it works. It will keep one sharp enough to clean a hog. I use old timer knives and cut whatever needs cut or scraped.

x3...if you don't know how to sharpen by hand I recommend you getting that lansky set...get the diamond set which costs a little more and be sure to read the directions...the directions will actually teach you which angle to use for different style blades for different uses...that in itself will teach you why it is important to use different angles for different uses...and knowing that will be a big help to you... I strongly recommend you learning how to sharpen by hand...I seldom can get a razors edge but get close enough to make any job easy...in a pinch you can use two knife blades to sharpen them...steel sharpens steel... when you have the time use a cheap knife and a decent sharpening stone and practice...
