Hog dogs bumping deer

What's everyone's advice on breaking dogs off deer? This dog particular may take a hog couple miles n bay it up. Get there tie the hog n the the same dog literally jump a deer n run it for a flippin mile. Very frustrated even though she has found several hogs here recently.

A GOOD shock collar broke my coon dog off deer. But he was open mouthed and i could tell by his bark when he was running a deer. He was bawl mouth on track and chop mouthed on the tree. But when he ran a deer he would chop bark like he was treed but he was getting out of town on the garmin. Thats when i would set his world on fire with the touch of a button..lol..i also had some old time hunters tell me that a goat smells like a deer to a dog. If you knew someone with goats put a shock collar on him and when he messes with a goat burn him up with the collar. I also had another old timer tell me something that involved a deer skin or hoofs , a good hill , and a 55 gallon drum. You can put the rest of that story together. Said it works like a charm but i never gave it a try.. hope some of this helps...

Shock collar works great, BUT u need to be SURE the dog is running a deer. Iv heard the hide, a big hill and a barrle works. Some folks on here hav also said deer urine and a muzzle or rag tied to their collar. If the thing that a deer smells like a goat, then the goat option can yiled multiple function. Deer braking, lawn mower/fertilizer machine or goood bbq

Had one like that one time and I only dropped him on the ground when I personally saw a deer cross road in front of me then I would light his tail up with collar. After about 5 trips he learned.  Then I would keep working him in pen on hogs at home.

How old is the dog?

I forgot to ad what groundskeeper said. That will work for ya to...if you can see a deer and put him or her right on the track. Light em up when u know they took to it. And like charles said. Need to make sure that there actually running a deer. You probably are sure tho. It was real easy for me to tell. He would bark like he was treed but running wide open. I competition hunted him so i had to know by his bark what he was up to.

Just making sure it wasn't real young. If u go the route of shock collar do ur absolute best to ensure it is in fact a deer before u light it up. I have dogs that will bump a deer for 100 yards or so and dogs that would run forever. On the ones that took out I left them. Let them go. When they got tired they had to find me. They figured it out for the most part. If I did get a chance to cut them off I had a lil cane switch to let them know I wasn't happy. Now today the dogs are older and smarter. They still bump one if they get real bored but don't take long and they remember that lil keen cane switch.

We used to take dogs that needed the shock treatment to a field in the evening where we knew deer would be. Turn the dog out, if he ran the deer, he got the treatment. Point is like everyone else already said, ensure the dog is indeed running a deer.

I got a fresh deer, dead of course, and put a dog collar on it. Got my trashy dog and put a shock collar on it. Then I tied a long rope to the dogs regular collar and ran it through the deer's collar. I let the dog walk up and gwt a big nose full of deer and then I curled his hair. He ran away from it and I let him get about 12-15 feet  from it and stand there a minute. Then I pulled him and the deer together by pulling the rope. When they were together again I curled it again and thos time did not let him flee. Just before the shock collar auto shut off I quit and then got on it again. Then I let him flee. I never had another problem.

I use a deer shoulder mount and tack a rolled white paper towel with deer scent on it tacked to the back side...and a cattle prod or shock collar...every time the deer touches the dog the dog gets lit up...I start with the alpha dog and get them all...I repeat 3 times in about 2 weeks...I use the white paper towel because it simulates the white tail of a deer...this has worked great for me...

I've had two different silent dogs that were very much open on a deer ya all ever seen that?

Yep. Cause I have dogs that bark every breath on a deer but are pretty much silent on hogs.

I agree with the above replies. Buddy of mine that I hunt with has some of the most broke hounds I have ever seen. If he has a problem with a hound jumping and running deer. He will take the hound hunting at night. Ride around till a deer jumps the road and puts that hound on it. He said wait till the dog is running him good a couple hundred yards in and gas him with the shock collar. He stressed to me to not shock the dog right off the road or when returning to the road. He said it only takes a couple times.

Set hem up to run deer u see one in the pasture road just dump hem or she and when she turns on were the deer was u shock hem or her tell her eyes bug out and and yell get out the hole time and then try and find a nother deer then if she turns on that one wait a second if she shows up back in the road  then u should be good if it still is run it do it all over again then do it every now and again to remind her or hem that's what works for me

But u can ruin a dog with a shock collar that's y I love to set my dogs up so I know for a fact what they are running
