The deer season in louisiana where I live & hunt starts Oct. 1 and lasts till Jan. 31.You would be taking a big chance of loosing a dog while people are deer hunting here.My ol' dogs will be fat & out of shape when I can start back hog hunting Feb 1.I  can hunt to the middle of march when turkey season opens, then I'll have quit again till the last of April.By then it is getting pretty dam hot.I don't anything I can do about it,just venting, complaining.

I must admit i like to deer hunt to. But i like running dogs better. If people weren't so quick to shoot a dog i wouldnt care how long season lasted. Me and my boss got into a heated debate over it. He is a dog shooter..lol..he was trying to convince me that if i was in the stand with deer around me and a dog came through and busted them up that i would shoot it...i would be mad and dissapointed but wouldnt shoot the dog. He said he would shoot my dog, i told him i would steal his trail cameras...lol..i know where he hunts and about a week later he came in asking if i had stole his ground blind and trail cam...lol..he knew i didnt but sure nuff somebody did.

Now them dog shooters, that's bs. It's a good thing the law is catching up with dog owner rights and starting to prosecute the shooters. To bad the law doesn't allow for the dog owner to take matter into their own hands in a NON LETHAL method. Burning the shooter's house down would send a msg to other shooters.

WOW!  And I complain about deer season being too long here.  Our deer season starts on October 1 with bow and closes on December 16.  Used to start on October 15, I hate that they moved it to the first.  And I was complaining that it was too long.  Deer hunting is fun, but I would rather be out with the dogs.

I have heard some opposite opinions of dogs during deer season....I have heard of folks asking fellas to run their squirrel dogs and what not when the deer waiting gets slow. Get em up and moving...PS: a fella shoots one of my dog and he may end up like the dog.

I can vent a little too. Gave my dogs to a buddy of mine wen I went off to school, come home for Christmas break and check my cameras and I've got 2 different groups of hogs coming to a feeder of mine. It's driving me absolutely INSAINE!!!!!!!!!! I can call my buddy and he'll come over and we can turn out a couple or I can go pick some dogs up and go but I'm bout to loose my mind looking at all this pork on a computer screen in the meantime.

Every once in awhile I get asked by the man with the badge why my squirrel dog is so scarred up. I just tell him if they'd control the hog population, my squirrel dogs wouldn't keep trashing on hogs and getting beat up  Cheesy

If a man can't kill a deer in two weeks then he don't need to be hunting. The deer hunters in north Texas think they own ten mile circle around their lease as well.  That will get their blood pumping. Lmao

I don't understand why you can't dog deer. Used to be a top pasttime in europe to hunt them with catch dogs just like pigs. It would be so much better for the population from a greeny standpoint, because you'd be weeding out the slow weak stupid ones just as nature intended, instead of sinking a bullet between the eyes of the fittest male around.
