Just wanted to see what everyone's preference was.  Mine    1/2  Cur  1/4  Walker   1/4 pit or  Ridgeback  strike dog.

Catch is 1/2 pit ,  1/2  Dogo

My favorite cross for strike dogs, is the cross that makes them find the hogs. Grin   I have a mixed pot of dogs, that regardless of breed, happen to hunt the way I like them to.  BMC, Cat, Plott, Lacy - there's a little bit of everything in my dogs.  To make it easy, I just call them hunting dogs or curs...

IF i couldnt get a pure parker cur it would have to be either Parkerxjust about anything that will hunt. or a plottxbmc i have had good luck with. I like the plott x cur of somesort would have to be my favorite.

My walker will strike any hog trail that is put down, and if you have never hunted hounds with curs I strongly suggest trying a good cold nosed open hound with a couple of good go to curs and a couple catch dogs of your choice and you wont ever look back I can promise you that! Good hunting guys!

Me too thats why I cross them now. Had too many times the cur dogs get there while he was still tracking and the cur dogs would lose interest and drop out, then when he would get them stopped they wouldn't honor the bay not all but some. So I felt the need to cross to give some bottom to the dogs. Works for me but not for all. Undecided

We have a couple different crosses, but my favorite dog is a bmc x birddog. His name is Red, he seems to have more drive and heart than the other dogs. He is a little grabby, but he is just coming a year old so he still has a lot to learn. He has had a hatred for hogs since he was first introduced to them at 4 months.

Pure pit for catchdog. They will hold on with no self preservation, which protects me.

I got started with two curs and still have them today,I could not catch a good hog if it wasnt for my cur girls! My walker Just has a colder nose and helps drag them a little deeper than we used to hunt and will help line my curs out, I truly love hunting all dogs, and if you came to my property to hunt with me I would let you hunt what ever dogs you want,im not pregadise , Dogger for life! Good hunting guys!

My preference is Blackmouth Cur for strike and Blackmouth Cur for catch. If you work with them like I do, you have dogs that will keep a bay and unlike some of the hound folks, I don't like to run all night. I hunt hogs to catch hogs not to find them. We got so many hogs where I hunt that you don't need a rangy dog, you just need a dog that will stay with one and not bark him out of the woods. Just deppends on the land you have to hunt.

As for as a catch dog, I like Blackmouth Curs. You don't need a big bad ass dog to catch a big hog,,,,,,,,you just need a smart one. I used to have pits and they are by far the best dogs for holding a hog but you first have to get him there and then you got to get there before he gets killed. A cur dog catches on the ear and rolls with the hog until another gets the other ear. They don't set back like pits, so they don't get cut up as bad. Just my way of hunting my land guys, don't get mad,,,it is just a preference and an opinion. The places where I hunt also have some bad hogs and you don't want nothing catching until you get there or you won't have any dogs before the hunt is over. I learned the hard way.

Has anyone ever hunted a AB- walker cross, and if not how do you think the pups would turn out?

Strike: I would have to say Whippet/bull or Greyhound/Pointer
 Catch: Dobie/Bull or Dogo
If anyone hasn't noticed yet I love my crosses!  Grin I've had to get rid of my Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog but have a new secret weapon in training, It's so secret I don't even know its bloodline but Noah would like him!!
