Only one I am familiar with is the Carnathan blood.

Know they come rough with some red influence. The ones I have been in the timber with hunted decent and were stable on game, coon, cows and hogs.  Wouldn't be afraid to try one again. My personal preference is to stay completely away from the Foundation dogs........just never been impressed in any way other than looks on those. (My opinion only).

I tend to put more attention into a dog that had been bred in a closer family of dogs by one or two people that have liked minds on breeding. I also pay heavy attention to their Cull practices.

Papered dogs with four generations and twelve different owners of each dog tells me that there typically is no uniformity in the breeding practices.

Just my two cents bud......and usually isn't worth that much! Azn

I agree with that to. Thats the reason i was asking. Theres alot of folks with alot more experience than ive got. I was just hoping someone would recognize some names on there other than carnathan..lol...but thanks for the replies. And i can definatly understand how. Big "publicized" well known name could get diluted over time.

Lot more folks are up on their paper lineage and might be able to give you more depth to your question. Am alot more familiar with the East Texas dogs. And I tend to be hard headed and biased about anything I have not witnessed personally or have had bad experiences with.  Wink

The Markley, Jennings, Miller, Dozier, and Downing dogs are Carnathan bred. They all got dogs from Howard. Most of the dogs listed were used as tree dogs except  the Downing dog because Mr. Downing was a cow man and sale barn owner.

Well there isn't really a way to be honest and not come off sounding rude or starting a full on riot.

So I will limit it to my personal experiences with them ..Which throughout the years have been numerous.
They just do not cut the mustard on working abilities that I look for in hunting dogs, and have suffered immensely from the over marketing and substandard cull practices due to the vast amount of hands in the cookie jar.

I cannot attest to their cow working abilities. Which I am told is their breed basis. But as hog dogs.......I will pass on them every time.

To their credit where it is earned by my eyes ... I have saw a few that bayed well. But lacking in the rest of the preferred package.

You dang foundation hater !!! Lets get this riot started...haha..just kiddin... everybody is entitled to there own opinion. I have seen some decent dogs out of some well known names. (My opinion of decent may be and probably is totally different than others) then again i have seen plenty of culls as well. Here is what i think. Even though i have some foundation dogs. When you have really well know names on a dog. (Ladner, weatherford, howard, carnathan etc) those are all old and well know names. And over the years people will start breeding the Name . Not the ability of the dog. With the smaller names like ybm has ,those dogs are primarily or entirely  owned by hunters and sometimes close friends that only breed within each others small circle. Which does create a closely monitored better culled stock. Which will intern produce better producers. And stronger ginetics for what you want a dog to do...i aint knocking the foundation dogs though. I have them and i like them.

Lol...dang i dont think we will ever get along. Ive got one of those to.  I will say she is a good looking dog and shes hell on a hog in a pen but i cant get her to do much in the woods yet. But shes only 6 months old. My buddy is heavy into bay pen competing.  Thought about getting into it with him. If she won't do much in the woods i think she will make a decent baypen dog. Only time will tell.

In my opinion of what yella dogs if have been around they were one extreme to the other. I have seen awesome dogs and duds. I have seen dogs from foundation stock and southern. Named dogs and dogs from ol joe down the road. The only consistant thing I've seen is the inconsistency. This goes for every breed I have seen. If a man has a line on dogs that consistently work similar and he likes them he better keep that relationship close. In defense of some of the dogs the handler was as much or more of an issue than the dog.

I agree completely shotgun.  That's the problem is the rollercoaster performance and stability of current lines.

Every line has culls. EVERYONE of them!

Now the percentage of culls you get from a line weighs heavily on how and IF the line is culled and maintained properly.

I never question a mans line that is massed produced for marketing .....the answer is already there on the cull rate. NONE because they bottom line is profit and it does not pay to cull anything.

Hence the reason I prefer to stay away from certain lines.

If you cook the stew.....you only have yourself to blame when it tastes like poo. But you have a better idea how to spice it for the next batch! And when you get it right ....Never sell the recipe!  Azn

I really like a bmc dog. I know looks dont get it done but im all about having a good lookin dog. I would like to get my hands on a yella dog from a smaller , less known about line of dogs. One that comes from hunters. Not breeders. I also prefer a full blooded dog. Not a cross. Theres a member on this website thats from Georgia like me. I have heard that he has developed his own crossed up dogs that are the real deal. But thats just not my thing. I like a full blooded dog. But ive heard nothing but good about what he has goin on.

We'll Georgia if we really do our history ANY line if hunting dogs comes from crossed up dogs that were bred straight and true  and over time a certain style or look was developed and bred for.
