Ormiston in an article in Dog World several years ago discussed "Colonial Curs" made some interesting points about origin of these types in general. Tom Risinger told me his family moved to Texas after the Civil War and brought dogs. I think several families moving from the southeast brought dogs that were the foundation for the curs that we see today.

yessir my granddaddy had 7 uncles that moved to tx from fla before the war . they were all cattlemen as that was the about the only occupation in central fla or tx at the time . 2-3 of them were rangers . they came through nacogdoches and spread out from there .

my granddaddy said growing up in the depression their dogs were mostly yeller , some with black mouths , red ,black ,black and tan and brindle . they cow and hog hunted with them and treed coons and squrrels and bears .
