I am currently feeding diamond naturals large breed puppy. I havent quite made my mind up weather i like it or not. Just curious as to what some of yall feed. Is it becuase of the price? The quality? Or both? Thank yall.

I feed whatever will make a turd  seriously through, I used to feed diamond high pro, diamond large breed puppy, old yeller, outlaw feed, and now feeding a powder form of feed. The quality of all were good, but price went up and quantity went down and is still going down but price going up. This powder form is very reasonable in price and its quality is bout the same. Only thing different is, their poo is drier and washes out easier than with other feeds, and poo output is no more, or no less than the high priced feed. |

I hand feed all my dogs a feed that is at or above 26% protein and fairly high in fat with a good digestibility. I use the same feed for puppies.
I try to feed each dog the amount of feed that keeps them in a moderate fat condition but not what would be considered fat.
I give pups all the dry feed they will eat. If I think they need something more, I will use 20-20 calf milk replacer. I mix it rich and give pups all they will drink once a day. That works for me.

I hear that charles. I have heard / read that feeding a puppy the high protien/high fat feed that i feed my adult dogs (diamond naturals extreme athlete) as well as others with the higher fat/protein ratio will not allow them the proper growth time or make them grow to fast for their joints and cartilage to keep up. So i would need to feed something specially formulated for pups. Do either of yall know if theres any truth to this or have i just fallen for the ole make it sound good and give me your money trick...lol

Always raised all my pups on purina. The puppy chows high but iv had good luck with it. My buddy is raising his pup on some high powered feed my dad uses on his coyote dogs im wantn to say its 26 or 28% protien pup looks like hes doin real good on it.

One of the things to watch, esp with big boned dogs like big ABS , if u feed SOME of them high protein, their bones in the front legs grow and the ligaments are kinda weak, I guess, anyway, the results is crazy bowed out front legs that u think is RICKETTS. THEY' ll eventually catch up and straighten out, but it scares folks that see it for the first time

Purina puppy chow or Retriever puppy. Whichever is better priced at the time. Both have everything ya need to raise a healthy pup. You boys feeding that super high protein with pups on concrete are running a high risk of increasing the chances of growth deformities in their feet. Mainly the tendon that connects the paw to the leg. Can never remember the scientific name. But will make them flat footed and worst cases cause hock legs or floating elbow syndrome in the front. Momma and couple bags of good feed without the bells and whistles will get em hunting. If..........ya took care of Momma like ya should!  |

Feed diamond puppy to all the dogs all the time. We buy it by the pallet load so we get it under $30/bag.

Thank yall. I feed diamond to and like it. Had some off and on episodes of loose stools here and there.( Borderline diarrhea loose) dogs look good though and stools are normal now. I also feed diamond extreme athlete to the grown dogs and im real impressed with it. Thanks for all replies
