I have a dog box question. I hunt out of a ford explorer I have been using plastic pet taxis for a dogbox but am considering building a box on a platform that goes in the reese hitch. Has anyone used 1 like this pros and cons or just some thoughts on it. I normally only haul 2 maybe 3 dogs at the most. Thanks

I made one one time out of a wheel chair transporter. Or whatever those things are called. Someone gave it to me. It had a fold down ramp. The entire thing was made out of angle iron and heavy wire mesh. I cut the ramp off and that was then my top. Had one door on the end. And a small catch dog box on top. All my dogs got along though and i could cram them in the box together. This probably sounds stupid but i always worried about exhaust fumes..lol...never had an issue though.

I built one for my eplorer a few years ago .you want the deck elevated 1 ft. Above the reciever tube so you dont drag the ground going thru a ditch.

Build off the design of 1 of them receiver hitch luggage carriers. Build it as wide as ur vehicle, 2' deep and 2.5' tall. That size will hold 4 dogs easy. U could even build it to where it would hinge down so u could still open the back door

i would not build it as wide as your vehicle unless you want to add another set of run/tail lights on the back of your dog box. watch not to cover up your tag also.

Put a set of lights on it n plug into the trailer plug and put a bracket on the box with wing nuts for the plate. Take a whole whopin 2 minutes to hook onto it n go.
