Nothing special about this hunt except it ties in with another topic on running hogs. My Spud dog ran this boar 24 miles by himself and at 1:30pm we finally got a fresh dog to him and bayed the hog in another 200 yards or so. Two things, Spud had the bottom and the speed to stay up close to the hog and then putting a fresh dog in to bring the boar to bay. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Good job Spud! Wow! Sounds like he put the B in bottom. Topped it off with a little cold packin! Fine dog work. Outstanding breeding and handling as well. Sure sounds like you got it going on down in the swamp.

That is impressive Mike. How many hours did Spud take to cover those 24mi? I get pissed when my curs are on one for more then 45min-1hr!! Come on back and let's go get another one!! Being a foot soldier following Spud would have me in the hospital! Good dog work!!

My friends & I met up at the usual place, a truck stop about 1/2 mile from where we hunt at. We always collar the dogs up there & let them empty out. We probably went a 1 1/2 where we made the first drop & the dogs Charlie's & mine got on a shoat & we got it caught. I looked on the garmin & my Flash dog was rolling out so we got back to the trucks & got my Red Gal gyp into the race. They ran this hog maybe 3/4 of a mile from where we turned loose at & bayed her right in a big mud puddle on a logging rd. Sent Catch in & he sealed the deal, about a 225# prego sow. Went back up the road about 8:00 & cast some dogs out. They ended up on another shoat & I noticed Spud lining out. The other dogs rolled on out after a different hog & eventually caught a 120# sow. All this takes more time to do it then to write it down. Anyway I tried to catch up with Spud but this hog was taking him everywhere but where I was & I could just not get close. Finally after a very long time he started making big loops in this one area & actually bayed once & we started onto him just to have the hog break. I went back to the truck & got Flash( son of Spud) & I knew if I could get within hearing of him, I would have a fresh dog in the race. The wind was against us but we had walked in about 500 yards to where Spud had been making loops & we could hear Spud coming. We walked about 20 yards farther & Flash just blew up. The hog must have just ran thru there & by the time I turned Flash loose, Spud was only about 100 yards away. They stopped the hog about 200 yards or so away & bayed. We went in & sent the catchdog in & caught hog. A very rewarding day after Spud had run him so long. we caught the hog right at 2:00. We let a very good friend of mines son Hunter, stick his first boar. People on the hunt were my hunting buddy Charlie, Danny, Ethen, My long time friend & hunting buddy Todd, his son Hunter & my wannabe son in law Chris.
Forgot to add that Spud had 27.95 miles on the garmin. We went a mile & a half. then went 3/4 of a mile to a caught hog,, came back 3/4 of a mile before we turned Spud out. I might of shorted him a mile but anyway you look at it, he put 24 miles on that boar by himself.

Running that hog for 6hrs, is some good bottom for sure!! How old is Spuds? I know what dogs I would have in my yard if I was not a walk hunter and could use a truck, ATV, UTV, or a horse!! Cajun Bayou Plotts!! Always get a kick out of the wanna be son in law comment!! Lol..

Thanks guys. Guy, Spud is 4 years old. Yeah Guy, you have to have some kind of way to keep up with them. there was many a day I was cussing these dogs, wanting them to quit & come back when I was ready to go home. Now, all I have to do is beep them & they are coming back to find me.
