Where you hunt, in a 4-5 hour time span where you and a buddy are hunting together (meaning you're working together in close proximity), how many hogs will you generally catch on an average day during your main hunting season?  Please explain what state you hunt, what type of dogs you're hunting, the terrain, how you hunt (off Ranger, by foot, or by truck) and how many other hog doggers hunt the same property.  I'm just curious.

Here on the Big Island of Hawaii there is no season for hunting pigs in the public areas. My pack consists of crosses from Bull/Whippet to Shepherd/Lab. The terrain is mostly thick rainforest, Streams. I hunt on foot usually hiking on a trail if one exists in the particular forest until the dogs hit then it's a sprint and hurdle over down trees and vines with mud everwhere! lol Good times! Living on an island that only has 5 major public hunting areas there is no way to tell how many guys hunt each particular area so usually when you show up to check in and see a truck parked or boot prints leading in and not out yet then you know there are other people in the area. A good day of running the dogs would be 5 hits but as far as catching them if I catch one I am happy cause I have to carry him home and the bigger he is the more I wish I brought someone along! lol

Far northeast corner of Texas, pine thickets, flooded sloughs, and briar patches, most all our dogs are cur/hound crosses typically no one hunts the land we hunt on(or not supposed to be) ,we hunt off atv's, typically we catch at least two hogs on average

Down here just about everyone of my places is different.

When i go out to the sugarcane fields we walk the dogs through on foot, usually catch 1 or 2 good boar hogs.

Another ranches i hunt are open marshes or pine and palmetto flats, we usually run buggies out there, no tellin how many hogs you are gonna catch.

And i do alot of public land hunting on the kissimmee river, go to it by boat or airboat and catch alot of hogs, usually around 5 but sometimes 10 or 15

As others said no season in Tx. Mostly road my dogs, will sometimes park and let them hunt out in a hoggy area, never walk them anywhere any more. Hunt the Hill Country area  mostly rough country, lots of cedar, rolling hills very rocky, lots of shinoak. Catahoulas and hound cross dogs.

Never hunt seperate from who ever is with me, whoever goes along stays together. 2-10 in 4-5 hrs with 3 being avg depending on lots of variables. Lots of 4-5 hr runs on a single hog here latly but been gettin em in the end. Had 20 or so bayed the other night and killed 3 from that bay, killing 1 before that bay.

hunt curs, catahoula's, and hounds..

swamp...rice fields...cattle pastures...piney woods...shoot who ever calls and where we can get premission.

usually catch about 2 pigs a hunt...sometimes we have a dry run, but not too much...some night we only catch one...and sometimes more than 2..

it just depends on the weather and where we're hunting...honestly, after 3..im ready to come home and eat! Grin

We have caught as many as 11 hogs in one 5-6 hour hunt, but thats unusual. Most places we hunt we will catch 1-3 hogs in that time frame, occasionally we won't get on any hogs if they have been pressured recently.

We hunted one public land hunt last March. Turned my Monkey and Spur dogs out and a buddies young Plott that had never been hunted. We turned out at 5:30 PM and by 6:15 PM had 4 hogs caught and tied......thats SWEET when that happens!!   Grin
Monkey caught 3 of them by himself and Spur bayed one off aways that we caught when Monkey and the Plott got there.

I do this completely for the sport of it (and to feed the addiction).  I don't get paid to do it and I sure don't charge to help a landowner out.  To be completely honest, I'm happy every time we catch one regardless of how big it is.  Heck I'm happy even if we don't catch anything as long as the dogs hunt good.  I can't blame them for not catching something that isn't there.  I mention that because my hunts are for the pure enjoyment of being with the dogs in the woods, not how big of a number I can put up.  I like to slow down, take pictures, water up the dogs, and do it again.  When the dogs are whooped or we are whooped we call it a day and enjoy some cold beers.

I'd say a usual hunt for my pack is 0-3 hogs per hunt.  It really depends on where we hunt, the type of terrain and the time of year.

Shhhhhh....We didn't TAKE them OUT alive...the 4 small boars just became lighter in the back end.... Grin  We just took them out of the "breeding population"........they will be better hogs in there next year if someone catches them!! We did take out the big sow (dead) as the guy I was hunting with wanted her.

We do it all the time, just don't advertise it when we do it or where.........

I am like cullbuck and others, I do it for sport and don't care how many hogs I catch and check out, as far as numbers. I would rather see the dogs do good on one hog than bad on several. And I would rather cut a boar hog, turn him loose and catch him another day, than kill a boar hog.

We hunt private land too, but most of them just want the hogs gone. They don't care what you do with them. I have one of the Florida Department of Agriculture Feral Swine Licenses, so I am legal to transport the caught hogs alive. But that doesn't apply to WMA's.

Here is a pic of the 3 "monster" boars....... Shocked that we cut and released and the sow. We caught and tied all these within 45 minutes.

I wasn't worried about the box caving in with those little hogs on top of it.......thats because the box holds ME when I stand on top of it.........  It has been tested to hold mucho weight......... Grin

Can't believe no one commented on my "girl" decal on the right corner of the window??? I had to buy the decal...she reminded me of someone......like my SECOND wife!!! Evil

sc. moutain huntin is verydemanding physicly.all of our hunting is done on foot.we usualywalk dogs in to an area that might hold hogs  and i should stress might.sometimes we free cast that area or maybe start them on a track.you have to remember if you send them and then find sign you aint got any dogs til they come back.we have 2 or 3 people bring dogs. they range from plotts curs and some bird bulls maybe a hound cur cross and atleast 1 walk in catch dog.a race can be seconds to an hour.wellthe race itself might not be an hour but the trip to the bay is.sometimes you can hear the bay dogs realy sounding frantic but your only able to make it 20 or30 feet at atime.your heart is pounding in your head and yur sucking air legs are screemin suckin swett up ur nose but you realy wanna catch that hog bad.its not wise to send in the bull til your sure you can get there shortly.u make the catch kill the hog then you gotta drag it out of those same hills you just came in from.we might hunt 2 or 3 hunts and not get on a hog. usualy just catch 1 caught 2 once.you gotta find the hogs.if they aint there you cant catchem.if u can make a good dog up here hes real good.we can go dwn state and do much better.but its like 4to5hrs.if you dont luv it you want do it and i cant get enough! johnf
