South East Texas------ on my way to work this mornin on pine island road south of hwy 90 i rounded a curve and saw a dog layin in the middle of the road in the rain, i slowed down to go around him figurin he was dead but as i passed he picked his head up...... Im hard on a dog but i got a soft spot for em too and im not one to pass up one in a situation like this.....anyhow i stopped and what i found Has been gettin at me up today......this dogs head is destroyed......whatever he fought with tore him up, both ears chewed to pieces and deep deep open wounds.......really looks like the bad loser of a dog fight to me but regardless i got out and he managed to get up and come to me so i loaded him up and have him on the mend here........im really thinkin he got dumped but who knows, he may very well managed to escape from his owner and ran into whatever tore him up after he got loose. Anyhow if anyone ya'll know is missin a pit in this area tell em to contact me here. Thanks

That's a shame. Kudos to you for picking him up. Who knows how it played out. He coulda been a stray that ran into the wrong dog. Could been dumped on purpose. Probably a long shot but it wouldn't hurt to have him scanned for a microchip too. Good luck with his healing!

It's any ones guess. I have taken in a few strays over the yrs most I call the county on so they won't be a problem. One time this old red dog showed up it was a Irish setter cross ended up being a good old porch dog didn't get out of the yard didn't mess with any thing or the other dogs was happy as can be when you came home. She was up in years and was sleep under my truck late one night and I had to run to town and I backed over her I was heart broke I had to put her down sad deal she was probly dumped out by my place cuz they seen the other dogs rip brandy

not too sure he will make it w/o surgery, i tried my best to clean him up this afternoon when i got home but its beyond me. After abt 15 minutes of water on his cuts its obvious someone tried to fix it themselves, the hair all around it had been glued with something, im thinkin it got infected and someone didnt wanna mess with it. He is goin to the doc in the mornin to see what they think as far as options go.

folks like that should be knocked in the head and dumped in a bar ditch, and the hell with shooting the buzzards off them, let them birds have a feast. and thats another reason why dog laws are becoming more and more in texas, hole in the butts that won't take care of their critters, don't want them and dump them or fight them and toss them out like the garbage. instead of tightening the noose on dog laws, legalizing culling of people like that should come first. it aint the dogs fault an hole in the butt owned him/her and mistreated them. why punish the dogs

Justin if you take him to the vet, holler at me I'll pitch in $20 toward the bill. Know it's not much, but I appreciate what you did.

Appreciate it JSH, i've got his head cleaned up as best I can and I've gave him 2.5 cc's of penicillin both yesterday and this morning, aside from that I do not have anything else to give him other than hydrotheraphy and vetericyn which i've also done to him twice. His wounds + the glue or whatever bonding agent they lathered on him have made it impossible for me to really scrub on him. I am tryin to find out what I can use to get the glue out of his hair and off of his wounds as they are wide open because it did not set/secure very well.........as much as I hate to say it he ain't lookin too good, we have a good ol country vet im gonna tote him too as soon as I can, I wanted to this morning but I have way too much going on at work to get him over there and I don't want to take a chance with him around my old lady. He has yet to offer to bite much less even growl at either of us and I think that if he was going to he would have yesterday when I was tryin to scrub on him BUT he is an unfamiliar bulldog and no slouch plus right now he is a scary lookin sob so he makes her nervous.
I am gonna keep him full of antibiotics and keep the wounds clean as best I can until I can get him to the vet and go from there. After looking at him quite a bit more I am pretty confident that I could get him cleaned out and sewed up right if I could just get him to let me really scrub on him (and the dang glue wasn't coated on him.......makes it impossible to really see everything thats going on) , I am going tote him to the vet if I get off early enough and if not I plan to work on him some more when I get home.
Anyone know of anything I can use to get this dang glue off of him??? If I could just get it out of the way I could get him sewed and stapled up right.......

Nail polish remover or acetone. Only thing is, it BURNS in open wounds, but a cotton ball with a lil bit on it wont allow it to pour out into the wound. Leave it sitting on the glue for a bit (may have redob with actetone several times to get the glue to release. Monofelament 5lb rest line will work as a suture replacement. Let me c if i can find my extra bottle of lidocane n ill mail 1 to u. U can numb him up around the wounds, cut the old healed sections away n sew them up. Cutting it away will give a smooth and fresh bond to each other

more than likely the dog was fought and he won the fight because they at least tried to glue him back together...but those hoodlums steal a good dog just to make him fight and then they get rid of the dog...
Justin...we all appreciate what you are doing for the dog...it is very kind of you...personally, I don't think taking the dog to the vet is a good idea...they might take some pictures...call the media...and that will be ammunition against those that fight dogs...but unfortunately those laws will affect those that are not guilty as well because the law will be a blanket that covers the guilty as well as the innocent law abiding citizens...
antibiotic pills for 2 weeks and cutheal 2 times a day will do more for the dog than what the vet can do...and for a lot less money...

Charles thats exactly what I thought of and exactly what i want to do BUT there aint no way in hell im gonna be able to get either of them close to his head without it getting into the wound. Ive got sutures and the stuff to clean/cut the nasty out and get it back to good clean meat but until i manage to get the glue off there is no way i can do it properly.

Ive been told by some of the older folk that a dog can only effectively absorb 3cc's of pen at a time into its body, any more is waste, no idea if it is true or not but thats what ive always heard .......im in no way arguin, just goin off what ive been told by others. The pen is deff. helpin him, between it and the vetericyn he is lookin better already.....still has a looooonng way to go though! ......this dog better really work his tail off for me for doin all this hahaha...... I dont even know if he will catch a hog yet lol
