shave him down with clippers...
That was thought of also and i attempted it but the clippers didnt do a thing with all the glue in his hair.......ever felt a 5" paint brush that got stiff?......thats exactly what this is like, only shorter. Thanks for posting though, i appreciate all the ideas...... I think its time to either a)leave it alone, keep it clean and hope for the best. B) get to scrubbin c) vet. ......i may just have to tie him up real tight to a post with a scrub brush and a bucket of warm soapy water and go to town on it to see if i cant get it to soften up a bit and go from there, his wound and really whole head would benefit from it, just not sure if he can handle it while non sedated without gettin ignorant......we will see

Hey Justin, for a average size pit, I think your penicillin dosing is good. I don't think I've ever used 5 ml even on 100 lb plus dogs, but I give it n the muscle, not sub q. You'lol be fine and he'lol heal up doing just wat u r doing

He is healing up well, the pen knocked the infection out and his wound has finally completely scabbed up, all the swelling has gone down but he still has a few weeks to go before he will be healed up but he is gonna live anyhow. He seems to be feeling quite a bit better as he is much more active now. Through all the scrubbing and pickin at his head to get him cleaned up he never so much as growled at me even though i know it was hurtin him, he is a pretty well mannered dog. So far so good. Once i get him back to 100% i will post pictures

Our vet doses pen at 1cc per 10 pounds. With a top limit of 5cc. We give ours under the hide. Glad the ol dog is getting lined out. By time u get done he gonna be willing to do anything for ya.

Justin, I sure hope that he pulls through and works out for you. Sometimes the dog you save is the best dog ever. One of our best catch dogs was a stray that wandered up our driveway with a bullet hole right in front of back leg. Thats how he got his name Ammo. He was the sire to Bullet, the catch dog that we have now. Our best guess is that he was dumped and one of our neighbors who had chickens or goats saw a stray pit and shot him. He was the most well manored, sweet dog that we ever hunted.

Thanks shotgun and djhogdogger. He is doing great other than lookin like something out of a horror movie from the scars. He has already filled back in and looks great other than his head. Hopefully he will be a good one, im gonna give him 2 more weeks before i let him see a hog and then i'll go from there.

You can apply NuStock to his scars.....in my personal experience with dogs with injuries, from hunting, it works very well in stimulating hair regrowth. Corona ointment has worked as well.
