Hello I'm new to the forum and have only been doggin hogs for a little over 2yrs.I was hooked my very first hunt and bought my first dog in less than a month.From that point on I've been on a tireless quest to build a proper pack of hog wreckin machines. I have been through quite a few to get to where I'm at now and I can say that my pack consistently finds and shuts em down. I have Florida Cracker curs and Cambell Curs.The dog that is the reason for this post is Henr my 14 monthold Cambell I've raised him from a pup his story is as strange as he is he has never really cared for nothing much it's taken me hiswhollifetoreallymake buddies with him and he's bout thesame with other dogs he has no aggression towards em he just don't care to bother with em. And until the age of 7months he'd just as soon eat hog turd than pay one much mind. About the time I started to worry his switch flipped and boy did it switch. He has drive drive and more drive he found and caught his first hog his second hunt at 8 months from there he's found and caught 15 more hasn't backed up and bayed yet. When he hits the ground he's gone 3-500yd circles and check s in about every 30 if I'm lucky.I am really proud to own him I like him so much that I bought 3 more pups from his line.That being said he sure is trashy he will trash on armadillo's and even jumped a deer and ran it about 400yds.The dog takes discipline to heart even scolding him hurts his feelings so much that he freezes up and has to be consoled to even move. I I need advice! None of my other dogs bad thanks and good hunting

14 months is still a pretty young dog. For hounds I would always find a deer, let them out and let them find it themselves, rather than casting them to a deer and use the e collar on them. They figure it out pretty quick. As for my catahoulas, they've been more sensitive to the e collar so I am careful how I use it with them. Almost takes the hunt out of them for awhile.
So that is an option to try an e collar, or just keep puttin him in hog sign and as he matures he will figure out exactly what critter your after. If he's only takin them to 400 as a young dog, I wouldn't be too worried. It's when he gets older and starts takin them farther is when I'd be worried.

Most of the better hunting dogs start out trashing...sounds like a good one to me...some of the better ones are stand offish and don't require a heavy hand...thats about described your pup... lol...  Like already said...turn him in to a bay or strike or in to heavy and fresh hog sign...shock him off deer but only if you are 100 percent sure...sounds like he is on his way to making a good hogdog... |

Thanks for the responses I was hoping exactly what you guys said that he just needs to mature he's so sensitive that I have to be really careful with his punishment like nanny said or it takes the hunt outa him for a few.Hopefully a few well timed jolts will straighten him out.Thanks again.
