I wanted to see wat some of yalls opinons on this idea..sorry if this post is kind of long lol..I have a young real rough bluetick and i have bayed hogs with him and shot them. But i want to start back catchin them alive.. I used to use 3 or 4 bay dogs then a pit for catchin but cant afford to feed that many now..The dog i have bays good and is fast to stop a hog when bayed if they try to run he will grab and stop them then back to baying hes a great dog..But as far as getn back to live catches do yall think i should get an even rougher dog that will run with mine and catch as soon as mine bays so mine will catch with him after seein d other grab kinda like monkey seemonkey do??? Or do yall think i should buy another pit and do like most folks and keep him with me untill my bluetick bays then let d pit catch?Huh?    Im open to any opinons u guys may have.. So wat do yall think??

If it were me, I'd get a good, solid catch dog and lead it into the bay.

If you run an rcd on the ground with him, you'll risk both of them getting killed.

Depends on terrain.  How fast can you get there.?.

I totally agree with Mike...a bigger type catch dog as well...

All my dogs catch but that's my preference I hunt the rivers and swamps of Florida and I need em shut down fast. The downside to this is I have to get to my dogs fast no matter where they are.my dogs range from1-500yds and it has worked well for me. I haven't been doing this to awful long but that's how a lot of guys around here hunt.

Safest approach with minimal dogs would be a good heavy lead in cd. U may get by with a RCD for a while but I would figure u would come near loseing either the bay dog or RCD faster like this. Not to mention a lead in will lead to less stress and damage to hog.

A running catch dog is only a cd that you don't lead in I don't have any of those if you don't have the dog paired up right it could be a night mare

It seems that dog terms vary to me.If a dog finds and catches hogs by itself is it a ruff strike dog or an rcd? Now if that dog is a 75-100# pit does that change from ruff strike to rcd?Even if said dogs consistantly out find cur dogs?

I don't see the big deal in all these names on the dogs if it catches every time no matter what then that's a cd if it out strikes all the other dogs most of the time strike dog slash leAd dog if it strikes and catches rcd or bad mofo on and on

if you don't have the dog paired up right it could be a night mare.....................  This is the most important thing to deal with when your talkin about using RCD...You have to have the right dogs there with the RCD,, or you will be walkin out with a sad face,,,

What do you consider the right combination? Just curious is all, I don't have much desire running to a caught hog, I enjoy hearing a good race and a good bay, but mostly races cuz they don't like stopping  Cheesy

well I think they mean , if you have 2 baydogs and one rcd your gonna be or the rcd is gonna be in trouble if you can't get there quick .  all or most the other dogs have to be willing to catch as well .

That's the key half breed if you got one or to lose dogs and a rcd you best not be far behind like ol boy said you will have a sad face. For me if a dog don't catch once one does it best be a heck of a strike dog or I don't want him cuz it will put one in a bind on the wrong hog. But I still don't call mine rcd cuz there not a true rcd should catch at any time any hog.

well mine were rcd's till they would get whooped of by a big boar  lol    then they had sense enough to back up a bay a little .  but they were gonna at least try any hog once . when I would hear a dog baying I knew I had a good sized dang mean hog on the other end  .
