If you breed a male plott that is silent 90% percent silent, to a cur gyp that is 100% silent. What's the odds on the pups being silent are open. Figure some of you plot hands that have crossed them over curs could give me an educated guess. Thanks

It's a hound... the pups could be 100% wide open.

I believe the best chance you have is 50/50. I don't believe all of the pups will be half open, I believe about half will be silent or semi silent, and the other half will probably vary on being open.

I'm curious as to how old the plott is? I've seen and known a few plotts to get quitter as they get older. I don't think that has anything to do with the outcome of the pups though.

Here is what I think will happen. I have never bred a Plott to a cur but I have seen a few crosses. You will lose a little mouth, nose, & stamina from the Plott side. On the cur side, you will gain a little more mouth, nose, & stick. My buddy has some crosses & they are wide open on a hot track. I have seen others that were silent tho. Like said above, you will never know until you try. Not everybody can handle a full Plott. You have to start some off with half Plotts & work your way up. A little Plott goes a long ways. Good luck.

having crossed them for years , from a tight mouthed gyp on to my Catahoula male I have only had a very few wind up being even semi open . from the folks that bothered to keep in touch with me only one big male was open and I kind of figured he would be due to the way he looked real houndy . even most of the 3/4 hound pups I raised were tight mouthed unless it was a busted bay , then it was on like donky kong lol . but it's a crap shoot . when I made the cross I was looking for semi open dogs and didn't get it .

Some will more than likely be tight mouthed, but if you are like me you want them to sing.
