Hey guys and lady's I need some help, I love the value pac 24/20 dog food, but it is getting hard to find. I was told that tops 21 is a good feed. I was wanting to know if anyone feeds the tops or retriever and how do the dogs do. I don't hunt but on weekends with the hog dogs and only October till April. I have deer dogs also and they only get hunted 1 month a year.

bought 10 bags a couple months ago when it was on sale at TSC. dogs are doing great on it, and the stool output is way down from what it was on the other feed. only bad thing is, you can't get it tax exempt, even though according to the texas ag commission for tax exempt items, feed for livestock dogs is exempt, but regular ole house/yard dog feed is not. i know its hard to prove who has livestock/working dogs and who doesn't, BUT if a person has a ag tax id card, then they proved they have the land/property to run livestock, which they more than likely have stock dogs. so why shouldn't tsc honor the ag card for feed?

Currently have 165 bags in my shed of 21%.
Its a solid feed if fed at the appropriate time of year.
21% is a good spring, summer, early fall......but will not hold a working dog throughout a hard winter. The blue bag high pro will run them fine in the winter but will burn them up in summer.
If your switching from another type of feed.....your gonna have high stool output until their system gets accustomed to the Retriever.
Tip: Buy in bulk with TSC coupons and especially when you can catch it on sale with coupons.
If storing in bulk, leave in bags.....they have over a year shelf life if kept dry and away from rodents.
Good luck!

When Diamond went as high as it did we started feeding retriever... dogs look good and stay that way for the most part. I know folks who just feed it and a supplement and feed 10-15 dogs or so and no issues.

Haha. Maybe these nasty ole yeller dogs do better on the cheap stuff. If they wrapped their lips around some gluten free feed.....would probably give them the scours!

I fed it for quiet a while back when it was 24/20 and the dogs did well with a bunch of hunting put on them . the co-op was out of caliber for a few days when I needed feed last week and I naturally went back to the retriever and I noticed that now it was like 26/18 . I've never had any complaints with the feed and for the money a feller can't hardly complain .

Until a few weeks ago, I fed the blue bag Retriever (27/15) and like it fairly well. I got a chance to buy some Diamond (24/20) and have been feeding it for about 6 weeks. I feed less of the Diamond because of the higher fat content and my dogs are looking better. I like the Diamond feed better but was not unhappy with the Retriever.

Hi protein and corn will elevate their internal temp. Not a good combo for high heat hunting.

I'm not a big fan off the blue bag retriever feed about 10 sacks dogs didn't act right on it and one dog had a sieser. It might have happend anyway but who knows. I started feeding wendalins high pro 23.95 for 50lbs and like it better so far. Dogs seem to stay in good shap with less feed with more energy. Could be all in my mind. Jmo
