What are yalls techniques for trash breaking a dog. I have one that wont make a move for livestock when he has the shock collar on but the minute I take it off he is trying to chase them down. Do I just need to keep on working with him with the shock collar or are there other techniques I could try. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

As far as deer go, I get a few deer legs & wrap a hot wire around them & the pups will come up & smell them & get burned. When I am ready to start hunting them, I find live deer & turn them out on them & if they run them, I burn them. Finally, if I have a hard headed dog, when I shoot a deer, I will tie a dog off short to a deer & fry him. It never takes more then a couple of times & that dog does not want anything to do with a deer.

cow boy sounds like you allowed your dog to get collar wise and it knows you and that collar are the one's correcting it and it's not the livestock in question . a dog like that after being corrected will usually all ways have to be run with a collar on .

Okay thanks! So there's nothing I could do to sold it halfbreed? I've heard of guys dulling nails and putting those in their collar so it makes the dog feel like it always has a shock collar on. Could this work?

yes you can make you a dummy collar and try that . rig you a ''d '' size battery or a piece of 1'' galvanized pipe on a collar with a couple of small bolts and nuts I wouldn't use anything sharp like a nail .

I just wanted to say thanks to you gentlemen for being so free with your knowledge.I have a dog I've been having some problems with trashing armadillos I used Cajuns technique yesterday with the short leash and e collar immediately after took him to the hog pen and gave him positive encouragement.Hunted last night and zero trashing caught two little sows to boot.

lol I am going to tell ya'll some dogs are just hard headed trashy SOB'S I own one right now . that dang mnt. cur I have has been the worst dog to break off of anything that moves and I have done everything short of killing the dog lol . I've owned a few in my years but this one takes the cake and wins first prize . so he goes NOWHERE without the e-collar . he's ok around livestock and chickens but everything else is game on . and this has been going on for , well it will be 3 years in july . but I'm going to win if it kills me dag nabbitt !!! lmao

Halfbreed...I learned years ago through trial and error that some of those mt curs are so gamey they are hard to break off of trash... I learned that prevention is key on making them fly right...lol I break them off of deer before they ever go to the woods...deer scent on a deer shoulder mount and a cattle prod...also with a e collar as well...if they get to running deer it can be a long night...and then it is troublesome breaking them...but them a couple times on cattle and they break easier off of them...after that just turn them in on fresh hog sign or a bay... about 3 good sessions with the cattle prod and they are deathly afraid of deer...  |

a few things I have learned about dogs and e collars... if you have 2 dogs in the same kennel, and, let's say they are close to equal in pecking order...then it can be a long process on who dominates...also once one dominates he can become a bully as one of mine did...so I was keeping a close eye on them...I would hammer the dominant dog every time he started trouble...after a while the other dog learned he could antagonize the dominant dog and he would retaliate and I would correct him which is exactly what the lesser dog wanted...so the dominant dog was always looking for the opportunity to get on his brother...so on and on it went... So I had to take my learning's to a higher level...I found that the best way to correct them is to hammer down on both of the dogs...this way neither will want to pick, poke, or start any trouble and problems solved... another trick the dominant dog was to give the lesser dog the evil eye and he would move off his food bowl and the dominant dog would finish his bowl and part of the other dogs bowl of food...I finally observed what was happening after one dog was gaining weight and the other was slowly getting a little on the slender side... the e collars went back on both of the dogs but as soon as I saw the under handed trick go down I hammered down on both with a ratio of 3 to 1 meaning the lesser dog got one love tap...a couple times of this treatment and it has been smooth sailing ever since... dogs are a lot smarter than what credit we give them...  , an e collar can set a dog back or even ruin him if not used correctly...common sense goes a long ways... and in some cases you have to make a statement...that's all I have to say about that... |

lol that's the way this dog is Rueben GAMEY I believe if I had him on the lead and something bolted out from somewhere and he couldn't chase it he would just explode lol . but he is a good smart dog and has a good handle on him heck he stays in the house here and is a heck of a squirrel dog . I still have some of his pups here two plott crosses and one Catahoula cross and they show to be wired just like him to an extent .
