Thanks for all the articles for new hog hunters, I have learned alot. I am fixing to buy a Tracking Unit, tired of using everybodies that I hunt with, but What kind of unit should I buy? Tracker, Garmin. Just trying to get a little feed back on the systems out on the market?

I BEEN HUNTIN WITHTHE GARMIN AND THEN WITHOUT IT AND I TELL U WHAT THAT THING SURE DOES COME IN HANDY, I CANT WAIT TO GET ONE MYSELF, I WILL HAVE ONE BY THE END OF THE YEAR, IF NOT B4 ILL GET ONE AT XMAS! I DEF RECOMEND THE GARMIN HOGDOGGER!

Garmin is great if your dogs stay with in a mile, mile and a half (Depending also on terain) But if your dogs leave the county i would go with a Wildlife etc.

Wildlife or Quicktrack for me. Garmins aren't reliable enough for me yet.

Garmin's are the neatest thing since sliced bread... but I won't turn a dog lose without a radio collar on also.
My money is on Quick Track.

I have had my Garmin for about a year. I sold my quick track last week. I wanted to ,ake sure the Garmin was going to be reliable and trustworthy enough for my liking.
I have different hunting conditions than most. I use the long range roof mounted antenna but can drive to most any area or close enough to almost any area....if my dogs start to get out of range.
I felt comfortable enough to only run the Garmin but could have issues if I were in different hunting conditions. Besides my rug rats not have enough meat to run 2 collars.

I agree it depends on how rangy ur dogs are i use both the garmin and the marshall system i run both collars all the time i wont ever turn a dog loose with just the garmin on because they can get out of range of the garmin pretty fast so then u have to pull out the marshall to track when that happens quick track is good as well i use to own on for ahwile and so is the wildlife system

I hunt medium range dogs and the garmin with DC 30's work good for me.

Garmins are real handy but I am not sold on their reliability. Wildlife and quicktrack are top notch radio units, verry reliable and good range.

I have an F&L reciever, and I have had real good luck with it, but I have seen Bump's Quicktrack pick up my collars when mine couldn't. A garmin is definately on my wish list though.

Went hunting with a guy that had a Garmin the other day and all I can say is I will have one before long. It made keeping uip with the dogs so much easier. Takes out all the guess work.

Ideally you should have both GPS and radio telemetry on your dog. So the question is really how you want to accomplish that. Do you want to run two collars or one?
If you want to run two, get a Marshall (radio) and a Garmin (gps).
If you want to run one, get a Tinyloc (radio & gps).
Either way, it ain't cheap.
