Met up with Mike Starling this morning and we were going to go run the dogs. Mike had some hogs baited up and we were sure going to see if we could get on them. He had several on camera with a couple of really nice boars.
We pulled up to the bait & it was just getting light. I turned Bosco & 2 pups (Gumbo & Dixie) loose and Mike Turned Deacon loose. Was not long & we heard a roar & I checked the Garmin & they were 265 yards straight in showing bayed. We got ole Ketch out & started to them. All of the sudden, we heard nothing & I knew the dogs were caught. After about a minute they were roaring again so I knew this was a big hog. They had caught him but after a minute decided they better wait on some relief. The first hundred yards were pretty easy but that soon changed as we ran out of hog trails and were entering some bad thickets with saw briars. When we were a 100 yards are so it got really thick. We got within 30 yards and turned Ketch loose. We had to crawl in and we were in the lair of the beast. I mean thick & you could smell boar. All the dogs were caught & Mike & I got our hands on him. We had to pull him 10 feet or so before we could stand up. It was a battle because it was so thick to flip him but we finally managed to get him on his side. Mike started pulling dogs off & all the sudden that hog kicked  my arm loose and he was headed out. The Plotts stopped him in another 30 yards & Ketch had him again. We had to crawl to them & do it all over again. This time I tied his two hind legs off to a tree and then we got the dogs off.lol
By the time we had the dogs tied back, it was all Mike & I could do to just sit there & catch our breath. It was a jungle in there. I guess in the aftermath thinking about it, I was thinking bear hunting sure is a lot easier on old guys then wrestling these ole boar hogs. This hog would weigh 250 lbs. plus & when you bay them in their bed, they are fresh & full of fight. If you run them a ways, it kind of takes the starch out of them. He was a sure enough prehistoric, narley ,rough looking boar. Luckily their were only minor injuries to the dogs.
We had gone a couple of days before and caught a piggy sow & then my Flash dog ran a good boar all over the country. We found him bayed over a mile away & cut Ketch loose. Don't know exactly what happened but Ketch was knocked off the hog & back to the races. Wew found him bayed again another mile away & the hog broke before we could get in there. We got out of there & were able to pack a few dogs in & listen to a good race. Finally about 2:00 we had to catch Flash, Jack, & Raven as they had crossed out of the hunting club.

I'm with Judge, Cajun. Sounds to me like the 2 old farts still have it. I'll bet that newest member of the Barr association will agree. Just out of curiosity, how old do you have to be to be considered an old fart? Got a feeling I might qualify.

I guess there is no age limit but when you feel rode hard & put up  wet & the sun is just starting to rise, you might qualify.

An old far?  Embarrassed Huh? I reckon it has a lot to do with who you are asking...ask s 10 year old and he will probably say 30 years is and old fart...ask me and I will say about 78...  Cheesy
