Anybody know much about this? I read mikes post and it was the symptoms my wifes corgi has. Hes at the vet for treatment i was just wondering if any of yall have delt with it at home i like to do most of my own vietrinary work but am not agianst takin one to town to save its life and learn.

I never have heard of it until you posted...seems like one of my dogs might of had it for 4 or 5 months...he acts pretty normal now but he used to act like he was totally wore out all the time and didn't have much of an appetite...I thought he might be diabetic or something along those lines but after reading some on the disease it kind of described how he had been acting...he hunted fairly well but would be totally wore out after catching a hog with the other dogs...he was supposed to be in his prime but wasn't acting his normal self...

Reuben i can tell you this we took this same dog in a year ago and they claimed hook worms was his deal at the time i was using safeguard and valbezen alternating 1st vet says yea got bad hook worms. Ok i buy that he does a blood transusion and gives me a big bottle of stongid to use for all my dogs.I use it and give my safeguard away and get a boottle of pyrantle proamate and start alternating between the 2. He goes back down hill we take him to another vet and they claim hookworms agian and perscribe drontal and yet agian i buy it.All the while iv changed dog food 2 times goin from purina which the dog was raised on he quit eating it we tryed 1 bag of retriever didnt like it he ate it ok went to victor purple bag he felt awsome on it a couple months then went way down hill agian. He has had no energy crud in his eyes craps brown liquid lost 6 pounds and at his fatest only weighed 23. My wife loves this dog the bad thang is hes a cronic id rather move a lacy in the yard but wats a man to do other then pay the bill and keep her happy.

I forgot a few other symptoms he passes out and losses his balence alot and acts like hes sore as heck all the time.

according to what I have read some dogs will eventually get over it and some will be having the disease for a long time and might go into remission and then flare back up when they are under stress, I reckon it can be a chronic disease...the disease is not a bacteria and not a virus but some where in between...the treatment is 2 different types of antibiotics and the dog can be cured if caught early...since it isn't as common I can see the vets missing the diagnosis...they also mentioned it is hard to detect...the vet can do three different tests and use that plus the symptoms to make a diagnosis...that kind of sucks on account there is no sure way to say that is what is wrong with the dog and be 100 percent accurate...

I ended up doing two rounds of 30 day tetracycline treatments on my old gyp back in 2009... finally cured it after the second round.
After fighting erlichia, Lyme disease, brucellosis and leptospirosis... I keep doxycycline, tetracycline or minocycline pills on hand at all times. If any of my dogs start showing symptoms, I'll get them started on the antibiotics until I can get them into the vet to pull blood.

my dog eyes look to be irritated with the crud in them as well...I thought he had developed an allergy...he is a powerful athletic dog 1/2 redbone and 1/2 pitbull but he is doing quite a bit better but I don't think he is 100 percent back...his eyes are about the only thing that has issues but not as bad...his appetite is back...he never lost much weight but I mixed scraps in his bowl of dog food so he would eat...

Reuben, do a search for fish antibiotics and you'll find all of them. I just get them from my vet.

Lost my lead dog to complications of this disease last Spring. Got poor on me twice. Brought him back both times with a combination of Doxycycline and cephalexin. Disease finally swelled his heart bad. Put 'em on Vetmedin. Would have good days and bad days on and off for two weeks. Got over excerted one day around house(RAN 30 yards) and went down. Paralized and could not get back up. Had to put 'em down later on that night. Piss poor way to have to loose a good cur dog. Been struggling to replace him ever since.

Once a dog has Ericilosis sp.? he has it for life. You can treat it & like Rueban says, it will go into remission but can come back, anytime the dog gets stressed. Main symptoms are lack of appetite & very lethargic. As well as the antibiotics you need to give them iron pills. It robs the white blood cell count. There are two strains, Northern & Southern. I had a cur dog that got the Northern strain bear hunting up in Wisc. My dog got over it but it came back a few years later & had to be retreated.

Well i dont have a success story to tell yall the dog passed away this morning he was doing better for awhile gained some weight back then went back down hill and we couldnt get him turned around he was on antibotics and several other meds. Keep a eye on them dogs boys them ticks are bad news. Theres been a couple people around here come down with tick disease to. Rip Bear.

I had a walker get it and I took to the vet and he got better and died also. This is the scary part this past April was a year ago I thought I had the flue aches, night sweats ran a fever over a 100 for 30 days. No energy and legs hurt badly could not walk for more than 20 yards or so for 2 weeks. Dr. Ran test and said I had it. I took four pills a day for 30 days snd did a lot of prayer, got well and feel great but was told might come back.

Is a blood test the only way to verify? I have a dog that was doing really well and got sick a few months ago. A few weeks of doxycyline and he was ok. As of late he seems to be real sore and doesn't want to move much. Appetite is good and he is wormed monthly.
