We are going to have one of our males neutered, for health reasons and less headaches on the yard. He's about a 1 1/2 so he's mature. Great personality and hunting dog. Wondering if any of yall have neutered a dog after a year old, did if effect their drive to hunt at all?

The best two dog I ever hunted behind have been neutered one by a boar one came that way. I don't think it make much difference in there hunt. But might make them more pleasant around other dogs

If a dog is already doing what you like hunting good I'd hate to alter him in any way. But for health reasons it sounds like you have to do what you have to do. But like judge said I've seen some good neutered dogs. Both coon and hog dogs. I just don't know how long they've been neutered. From a pup, or from adulthood.

Thanks for the feedback. It's sad we're getting him cut but it's for the best, just hope he's still the same ol Bluto.

We neuter most of our young males. It drastically reduces their breeding instinct which is the cause of many negative/competitive behavioral issues. I would go as far as to say that it improves their performance. No noticeable stamina or other physical defects. Better focus. Easier to keep afterwords in most cases since most, not all, dogs will gain weight a little easier. They get easier to handle as well. 90% of the male dogs born to this world would be neutered at NLT 18 months if it were my choice. - But hell, my dogs probably ain't that good to begin with! Ha!

Thanks yall! I think it hurts me more than it'll hurt him, but glad to hear it shouldn't effect his drive much. Bluto is one of those parking lot specials that turned out to be a gem. Dropped him off this morning, he knew something was up... ![](http://i965.photobucket.com/albums/ae137/ashley_hudson5/Mobile%20Uploads/1436549661_zps19c6c743.jpg)
