I was wondering what anesthetic is best for a local block. (lidocaine, bupivicaine, prilocaine) Also, what is maximum dose per pound.

Lidocaine... if needed. Most dogs are pretty good about being stapled or sewed without anything.
Dosage... don't know. Squirt a little in the cut and then inject a small amout all around it.

THE ONLY TIME I USED LIDOCAINE IS WHEN THE DOG GETS CUT AROUND THE STOMACH AREA

I have raised bulldogs before and never needed any type of anesthesia. A month ago my bluetick dog took a bad lick to the chest and inner left leg. The chest wasn't bad, but the back leg was through 2 layers of muscle. He wouldn't let me get close. He's almost fully healed now, but next time I want to be ready.

Lidacaine is very effective, if you have a dog that is hard to deal with you can give them 1/4 to 1/2 cc of Xylaline that will let them sleep and will reverse on there own in about 30 mins.

Be careful of the Xylazine (Rompum) though, becuase if a dog is hot when you give it to them, it could kill the dog. I use it regularly, but you really need to let the dog cool off completely before using it.

Be careful of the Xylazine cause there is different mg. 20mg or 100mg both can be used on dogs. But make sure you know the right dosage to give.

I have studied up on this and agree that Rompum is the way go and can be reversed with Yobine. This stuff is hard to get a hold of from what i understand. I have an uncle who is a dentist and his dad is a vet. My uncle has cattle and race horses and claims this stuff is hard to get. He recommended giving ACE and a local for stitching.

MRMUD, i use 100mg. Xylazine 1/2cc in the muscle, works fine for me. you can put it in the vein also just harder to do unless
you have help holding the dog
