Can anyone vouch for a catahoula breeder. I am not talking about a bay pen dog, I'm talking about something that hits the ground running. I don't want anything from a puppy peddler, I'm looking for something that will hunt. Can someone direct me to the right person?

Beejay, in my opinion I don't think you could go wrong with Douglas Mason of Columbus Texas. He seems to be honest and does not inflate what his dogs do, is a trainer that has the facilities to do so and has a good reputation from all I have talked to. www.txmasoncatahoulas.com is a point of contact. Thanks for the info, a friend of mine got one from around the Dallas area (jam up dog). I also know that most catahoulas are bred as bay pen dogs, and I am a hunter. I just believe that you have to get one from the right person.

i got a red male pup reg hes out of huntin stock i dont own pen dogs only woods dog cant say he'll make a dog but he's got the potenial to be a good dog

Can't go wrong with Mr. Mason, I got my Lilly dog from a breeder in magnolia, both parents were cow dogs, and great at it, and now Lilly is one of my best hog dogs, they are out there, just gotta do the research on the background, if they've been working dogs through generation after generation thats a good start to a great dog. Lilly is the painted up cat in the middle  |

I just called my buddy with the catahoula I spoke about earlier and he said in fact it was from Mason. Looks like that's the man to call. Thanks fellas.

A friend of mine got a catahoula from Johny Hayze in Alabama, very good dog. I don't know the breeding on him, but he will hit the ground running though. I don't care what the dog looks like as long as he HUNTS.

Do your homework as you are doing now. There are good catahoulas out there. Alot of your good working dogs will come from folks who don't get on the computer alot. They are the guys who don't sell pups to make money and usually won't breed unless they are keeping some pups out of the litter. Send me a pm and I'll give you a hand in finding a cat from some real working dogs. Not to say there aren't some good catahoulas on the computer. Thre'

Thre, you just said a mouthful. Your are exactly right. Puppy peddlers are easy to find because they are trying to sale them, where real dogs are to busy being hunted. PM sent.
