Since I have been hunting hogs with dogs I have met some really smart dog men and I have also met some of the most ignorant people in the world. One in particular that seems to dream up these facts that I thought I'd share with all of you. He was the first person that I hunted with and these are some of things he told me.

A dog cannot smell when the humidity is high because a dog actually smells with their tongue and when its humid out it dries out there tongue.

A female dog will die if she gets in water while she's in heat because her euteris turns upside down to hold sperm and if swamp water gets in her euteris it will hold it like a cup causing an infection thus killing the dog.

It's OK for a dog to trash armadillos because they smell just like a pig.
Never let your dog drink to much water while hunting they will cramp up.

If a female dog gets cut all the male dogs will think she's in heat and fight.

I'm sure some more will come to me but I couldn't hold them in anymore let's hear some dumb sh@t you've heard.

I heard the armadillo one while hunting with some folks when I first got started. I was inexperienced at the time and just let it slide,  but I thought "no freakin way " ...

i can understand the cramping from water. I'm sure if they are HOT!!! and they drink to much water to fast, just as we would, they could cramp up. horses are like that too, to hot, to much water to fast and they will cramp

Then they dont have the chances of getting as hot as those who hunt in the much dryer areas.

I know I could understand that one if we were hunting somewhere else but he told me this while hunting here in the swamp.Just tickles me the things that people will say and believe. When I'm hunting my dogs drink and laydown in water the entire time to regulate there temperature and he would yell at his for doing that.

I guy told me one time that his 30 pound Pits bite so hard that they paralyze the big hogs. Therefore, they could control a bad hog just as good as any other dog.

I'm aware that they can hold a bite as good as any other dog, but the control part I have yet to see.

Thought of another one the term strike dog is a dog that finds and catches a hog its a new term just used in the last 10yrs because strike dogs have just recently started to be breed. They reach out and strike the hog with their mouth.

Have heard a couple people say that strike dogs are small catch dogs that are trained to latch on to the nose of a hog. Try and correct them and they swear a strike dog and a "find dog" are two completely different things

By far the dumbest terms I've ever heard. Either you got a hog dog or you just got a dog.
