My old gyp, Girl, has a nasty eye that constantly has drainage. I've tried giving her penicillin hoping it would help but it didn't. Also tried couple different types of eye drops but they didn't work either....was trying to keep from taking her to the vet but looks like if I can't get it to clear up I'll be taking her, unless someone on here may know something to try out. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Could it be an alergy? Have you tried benadryl or some other kind of antihistamine? If antibiotics and eye flushing hasnt helped, it might be alergies. I know the human systems arent the same as a dog's, but sometimes, depending on the part of the world im in, my sinuses drain severely and one or sometimes both eyes water up and looks like im crying constantly. Has she came in contact with any insects recently, did this problem occur after coming back from hunting her? She could have debris from the vegitation, possibly a poisonous plant, ie: oak, ivy, sumac, mesquit thorn or equivalent type thorn. Could have been from getting stung/bit on the eyeball by an insect.

My bulldog had both eyes that were crusty and he squinted wen i got him. He was in a small pen on the dirt with lots of big weeds all around it. After i brought him home i wormed real good and put him on grass with new bedding. Didnt take long and his eyes cleared up. Not sure if he had an allergy but i havent had a problem since. Seemed like to me he just needed more attention gettin the bugs outa him, helped alot i thank. He dont even look or act like the same dog now.

Try putting a little table salt in a straw and hold his eye open and blow the salt in his eye. Has worked for me several times.

Thanks guys. I've got her in a concrete kennel an I was leaning more towards allergies but since it's not going away it may be something in it. If it doesn't clear up soon I'm gonna take her on in.

If i dint take meds for allergies stateside, i could go 6+ months with my eyes tearing up n draining, along with my sinuses. Iraq or afghanistan, even with meds, 3-4 months of severe allergy symptoms. Im sure a dog wouldnt be much different if they got into something that set the allergy off, and it was still around.

IF, it was debris, it may purge the eye of the debris. But i wouldnt do it to myself, so there aint no way id do it to my dog or livestock. On top of that, it might make the dog scared or resentfull of the owner, not being able to trust the hand that feeds them, makes it a battle of pissing in the wind.
