Bo me and you hunt the same country. I think me and you are also the only bama boys on here. Bo and I both catch about the same amount of hogs and he and I both will tell you there are people around here that catch more. I get about the same assumption on MOST walk hunters. I just don't see a walk hunting dog being the ticket. I wouldn't own one. And there's gators up here too. A high caliber dog is a high caliber dog I don't care what terrain your in....

This thread wasn't started to be a pissing match but to the people that comment on every dang thread like they know everything there is to know about a dog and don't catch a handful of hogs makes you wonder. No you don't have to have a buggy to catch a hog but I don't know how you could walk hunt and catch anything. Unless your catching by sight... Or unless you like walking all dang day for a hog... I used to walk hunt too when I was 15 and my dog wasn't worth a bullet. There is a few walk hunters I know of that catch plenty of hogs and I'm sure one will come to comment soon. But still a lot of people that like to play mr know it all about hog dogs wont even think about posting on this thread bc they don't even catch hogs. My dogs aren't special or at least I don't think they are but they sure seem to catch hogs..

You didn't start the thread to be a pissing match just wanted to let everyone who hunts different than you that they're not doing it right and can't catch a hog in your opinion?Correct? There's different environments within every state and each one needs to be approached differently. You do have gators in Alabama yes are your hunting spots filled with them? If there is no way to get a vehicle to your hunting spot than how do you hunt it other than walk?If your dogs are good you should be able to hunt them anywhere and anyway with success in my opinion. You are talking about things and situations that you have no idea or personal knowledge of.Bo and you catch hogs I'm sure but so do we just in a different manor and it damn sure ain't by sight when we're walking. So how can y'all keep generalizing and making ignorant statement after ignorant statement that you can't call a dog a hog dog if its rough and you can't have a high caliber dog if you walk hunt? These things are simply not true. You can argue till you're blue in the face but unless you've been in the woods with a man and his dogs you have no idea what caliber of dogs he feeds and your just another fool running his motor.

I like a rough dog so I ain't said that. And I also said you could have a decent walk dog and some do... Just said the ones I have seen weren't worth a bullet.. I started the thread bc I think a lot of dang posters on this board haven't caught enough hogs or hunted enough to even have a valid opinion.. Much less to be talking about how a dog should be breed. There is a lot of good knowledge on this board that I have learned a lot from this is also a lot of bs and people don't even know what they are talking about.

I catch plenty fella none that really matter does it if a man has good dogs and few hogs the dogs have to put in a ton more work to catch a hog. If a fella has a ton of hogs in his area his numbers will be higher. Don't mean his dogs are any better just they had more  opertunity to be successful that's it so if you catch 15 average hogs 150 or so and the other guy catches 4 real nice hogs I would say the latter of the two is better my opinion only. Now since you stated numbers I seen a certain fella posted his was 17 me and this fella don't hardly ever agree but I can say by the area he is in and what he does I can respect that number as hard caught. Now a guy says he catches 200 or 300 I would say he is hunting in a heavy population of hogs. Not that his dogs are high caliber unless I seen em in person. We all have dogs and catch hogs some more than others don't really mean that much you ain't turning water to wine you are taking a animal that was tamed over thousands of yrs to hunt wow big achievement.

I claim to have one "hog dog" at the present time.  She is 12 years old and as Toby Keith would say " she aint as good as she once was, but she is as good once as she ever was".  She is slower than she was and slower than most, but she will still get the job done.  I don't count every hog I catch and what I can say is that I caught less hog last year than in years past.  I would estimate that in the past 12 years that I have hunted her, she has probably found and bayed about 250-300 hogs by herself and she has probably been on another 250-300 with other dogs.   She has been cut in every place imaginable, punctured lungs, broke ribs..you name it.  I call her a hog dog.  She will take a hot track quick and she will grind out a medium track.  Ive never walk hunted, but no doubt she will hunt anyway a dog can be hunted.  She rides the rig rack and does everything well, best way to hunt her is to turn her loose.

So, back to the original question, in most years past I can estimate that I catch about 30-50 hogs per year.  Ocassionaly I'll have a day where I catch more than one per hunt.  Okay, so all my jabbering is to say, I can talk dogs, I can estimate hog counts, I can type just about anything from behind this screen.

What I really care about is having fun while I am hog hunting.  I like being in the woods with good guys and my sons.  I like getting my dogs on the ground and I always hope that I go home with all my dogs safely and hopefully I don't break or lose equipment.  I don't really even care for pork; unless it is a nice barr hog, it stays in the woods (for the most part).

I know this is a public forum and people can say what they want, but I post a lot less these days because of all the bickering.  If I read something I don't agree with, I just don't reply.  I am on three sites, this being one of them.  I read this one this most because there are a lot of posts but I enjoy the other two more than this because the hunters respect each other.  I learn more from the other two sites, but this one is more entertaining....kind of reminds me of my 6 and 8 yr old fighting.

I really don't care how many hogs other people catch or I don't care what kind of dogs they feed.  To each their own.  I let three  nice grown dogs go last year and I packed back up on pups, just to try to get better dogs.  I think if most people focused on what they are doing and not what everyone else was or wasn't doing, some of yall may sleep better at night.

Oh by the way, if anyone wants to come hunt with me sometime, just let me know.  I just like to hunt!

I have not said numbers make you a hog hunter.... But experience does make a difference and for experience you might need to catch a few hogs... .the main people that have so much to say on every thread about how awesome there dogs are have not even commented on this thread. Shotgun66 says he catches 15-20 hogs a year for about 25 hunts. There ain't nothing wrong with that. That's catching a hog about everytime he goes. So I would say he has some decent dogs... Yes terrain and where you hunt matter. I have good places to hunt just like I have crappy places to hunt... I have been a places that would make a sorry dog look like a star and places that would make an ace look like chit. But you take someone that catches a pile of hogs he can catch hogs where you do too... My opinion won't change on the fact that there are two many wannabes that don't know hardly what they are talking about

Crack head and Judge Pee are both too insecure for anyone to post their opinion of what a "goog hog dog" actually is.   Guys just keep it to yourselves, your gonna step on their toes EVERY time you make a comment.

I have stated my opinion on thid site on several occasionas and its always the same "wanna be's" getting butthurt.   WOW.  I don't hunt Alabama but I can tell from a small sample of comments on this site that I would damn sure rather feed the types of dogs Bo and hansonw describe thani would the dogs Judge and his cheerleadin buddy tell us about.

I'll be the first to admit that I rarely catch hogs. I live in north Georgia.  Not many hogs here. I wait on a phone call from land owners saying the hogs are there. Because 9 times out of 10 there just moving through. Have to be there when they are or your just pissing in the wind.  And when I do go to places most of the time I like to be on foot. When we catch a hog im so freaking excited to have caught that joker its like Christmas morning for a kid. High fives and ribbing each other about whos dog struck that sucker. That's about how many hogs I catch. And its the same way weather there big or small. I probably dont have high caliber dogs. We just get lucky from time to time. I get on this site because I love dogs and bloodlines.  And even though I dont catch many hogs I love hog hunting. Theres a ton of good information on this site and also a ton of good folks.
