Just like walk hunting means you have sorry dog most places I hunt a wheeler or buggy are useless at a certain point. But I have stated before I run rougher short range dogs big whoop. Y'all got high caliber big deal if I would have said I catch 200 a yr would I then be a real dogger like y'all

Georgia Hawgs that's bout how I look at it but I do catch a good number of hogs most are bigger hogs. But I really don't see how you catch more makes much difference.

Oconee all I've done once again is stated facts and have said nothing about anyone's dogs not being good in fact just as the last thread when you threw the first stone I was simply explaining the conditions I personally hunt and what dogs work for me.Never said that anyone's dogs are not as good as mine or way better but you ain't gonna talk smack and generalize everyone else who runs different than you without some sort of retort.You sure are one annoying sucker I bet you got beat up a lot growing up.

I used to really get into turkey hunting in the spring and after several yrs I got to a point in which I thought I was a very good turkey hunter.    One spring a buddy of mine was having one hell of a season and had killed a few nice toms and was telling of the great numbers of young birds he had called up.   With all his stories of success I begin to think to myself that he must really be a good turkey hunter.    Well as luck would have it he invited me on a hunt on the last day of the season.   We heard probably close to 70 birds on the ranch he had been hunting that mourning and worked over 10 different very responsive gobblers.   We did kill a tom but I realized in one day that guy might have been the worst turkey hunter I had ever joined but had the best place to hunt that I had ever hunted.   Numbers are of no consequence and are 100% dictated by the enviorment available.   JMO

I guarantee you the population of hogs in the area you hunt makes a big difference in how your dogs look. If you throw dogs out in the middle of pigs every time you go of course you're gonna catch more then someone who does not have many hogs to start with. I am blown away by people who say they hunt a couple times a week and catch 300+ hogs a year l. I can't imagine catching at least 3 every time I drop the tailgate. They either have an unbelievable amount of hogs or an unbelievable amount of BS!!

I hunt once a week and i walk hunt killed 160 but don't hunt from October - December

I just added all my hogs up 62 to date with ten being bigger boars with nice teeth. Which to me don't really matter. I right them down to show progress of the dogs so I can have a accurate account of how they are doing. I wish I could hunt some of the better areas around me I just don't have a spot with high numbers but we do have a high success rate of pigs I start and we mostly walk hunt. There are a lot of young guys that have hunted with me and after hitting two or 3 spots and putting down a good number of miles on foot never want to go with me again.

I don't blame them lol. There is nothing wrong with walk hunting. I just couldn't do it and seems it could be high on some vet bills with some rough dogs.Yeah we walk to bays and catches 4-500 yds max most of the time drive within a 100 yds. Yeah sometimes we have to swim rivers and all that good stuff but pretty much ride on a ranger drink beer and watch the garmin. I guess it's hard to judge a dog when all you have is crappy places with hardly no hogs... I prefer to catch big hogs and usually hunt big hog tracks but a hog is a hog I just like to take a dog and find a big track and try to catch that hog.. But I also like to catch hogs in numbers

Where I am at you can't really hunt a track from May to November the ground is so dry only track you will see that ain't months old will be in the creek or a pond that might have a touch of water lol. You ain't getting no buggy or truck in there lol. The times I have hunted good ranches we caught a ton of hogs fast. The better the spot the better the dogs.

I have been wondering how many everyone catches also.  We hunt the Tri-States, FL, AL & GA and hunt mostly farms.  During the week it is normally 2 or 3 on Wed and Fri and then on Sat there is up to 6 of us.  All together we have about 30 dogs from started pups to a dog that can find a hog and stop it to catch dogs.  I honestly would not say any of us has a "Hog Dog" based on the post on here.  However we do have dogs that can and do find hogs.  Now some of the farms we hunt we just go catch hogs, I mean there are plenty of hogs, nothing to catch 4-8 hogs from daylight to lunch.  Then some farms we hunt we have to hunt 2-6k acres to find the 6 hogs that call it home, now that is hunting in my opinion.  We hunt off 4-wheelers and buggies to cover more ground and I would say that most of our dogs are short to medium range but when you are close to boundries that is what works for us.  As far as the numbers, we count every hog, pig, shoat cause in 6 months that pig will be having more pigs and eating up more crops which cost the farmers even more money.  EVERY hog is killed on sight, no exceptions, the farmers we hunt for will not tollerate bringing hogs out alive.  We hunt from Feb to March, shut down for Turkey season for April and part of May and then back at it through the summer till the end of September.  We hunt right through the dead heat of summer, usually from daylight till lunch.  Hardly go at night ever. 
This year we have caught 185 hogs, pigs and shoats.  And on another note NOTHING gets posted on Facebook, that is one of our pet p's.

Numbers never meant much to me and I'll give a couple of examples. One hunt that stands out in my mind is one where I caught 12 hogs one morning and thought the dogs looked like hammered poop. I think I could of caught hogs with my wife's housedog and if you were not there, most people would think that was one outstanding set of dogs. Other times, I've caught one hog and thought the dog or dogs performed flawlessly. I let my eyes and ears tell me how good the dogs perform and not numbers.

These days, only enough to keep a steady supply of pork in my freezers. When I carry a cur to the woods to hunt hogs, it's to "catch" them, not watch them run them in circles for 6 miles and 6 hours on a garmin, drinking beer. Used to haul 2 dogs. Have had to get it done with just one this past year.
