Looking to make the switch to the alpha. I thought the range was much better compared to Astro 320 but have heard of people saying the Astro was better after the switch was made. Anyone have experience with this?

We have switched and switch back to the astro. Having a shock collar and being able to track another hand held is a plus. Didn't like the sensitive screen on alpha and my 320 seems to track further. After having both I prefer astro

Thanks, guys. I was under the impression the range was better with alpha. I have the tritronic trasher breaker pro which works great. Just thought I wouldn't lose signal like I do with the astro at the mile mark. I use extended range antenna and the magnet you put on the roof. I am sure they will come out with something new and better.

Guys I run both the Alpha and Astro and I can always get longer signal out of the Alpha unit than I can my Astro.

You have to stay on top of the updates for tha alpha and collars but the range blows the 320 away and the battery life is triple as well.   The guys I've seen have trouble with range didn't even know what an "update" was when I asked them.   Lol

I second the updates on the Alpha unit.     Quick and painless to after you have done it once.

Alpha hands down... I've had mine over two years now and love it. I've had the 220 and 320 also... they don't hold a candle to the Alpha. Range, battery life, built in Tri-Tronics, ability to track your buddy's hand held are just a few things I can think of. I usually get three good hunts before charging the collars. The hand held is chargeable also... no more batteries! With factory antennas 1 to 2 miles is no problem... I get 2 to 3 in a lot of places. Like Oconee said... do the updates. Even when you get it in brand new... hook it up to the computer and update everything.

Mike,

I have received mix reviews on the Alpha, I could understand those who do not update not getting good range out of them. I just don't want to make the switch if the range sucks. You are not the first person who has said they get more range out of the unit. Seriously thinking about biting the bullet after the holidays. Thanks for the info.

"Technically" they should track the same if like antennas are used and updates are current on the collars and the receivers, they  both use the GPS and Glonass satellites and the signal receivers are the same.
