Me and 2 buddies decided we would make one last run before rifle season. Put paws on the ground about 6:30 this morning. Put my buddies two new dogs on the ground with my lacy dog and they kicked rocks. His little jagd was running all over the ranch baying at some invisible hog. Got my lacy dog all confused. Caught the jagd and let my lacy and his plott cur cross work. Bout 9:00 we hit a dry creek bank. That wraps around a tank that had fresh wallowing. Rhett's rooster dog splits left and my lacy dog goes right. Heard one yip and nothing but squeals about 100 yards off. Get over to a big brush pile and wasn't sure where the pig was until Dawson saw it. Cut the bulldog loose and he found the other ear my lacy dog didn't have. Pulled her out from under a big pile of fallen oak and gave her a blade. Game over from there red my strike dog chongo the bulldog and rooster my buddies plott cross on the left Rhett and his jagd. That little ole terrier found the sows nose in that brush and got a mouth full. Sow went about 200 give or take 20 and she was fixing to have a litter. Proud of these ole trashy mutts

Got to love them lacy dogs!!
they're my favorite breed and that ole Red dog is definitely the favorite out of the scraggly other 3 I own. My two friends I hunt with give me a lot of hell because I tried really hard to sell this dog about 4 months ago. Luckily no one ever actually showed up to get her. She will retire on my yard and train puppies until she just can't go no more

Mine just turned 3 and if it were up to some people on here she ain't really a hog dog. But I say she is and a dang good one as far as I'm concerned. She's short range and suicidal rough(she caught this sow by herself before bulldog got there) she might not go out past 350 yards but she will find every hog with in that distance in every direction.

Neither me, nor either 2 of my buddies who have dogs, own a dog that will range past 500 unless they're running a hog. We walk hunt and what you said is exactly right. What good am I to my dogs when they're bayed 3/4 mile away. Granted on flat ground with my youth I can run a mile in under 7 minutes but I bet it takes me 15 minutes or more to go 3/4 in the woods. And by that time the bulldog ain't gonna have no gas, and all the dogs we run are rough so they'll probably be cut to all hell if it's a good one. To each his own. And people who can hunt horse back or off a rig well maybe long range ain't that bad. But I'm on the ground and I like my 2-300 yard jog into a bay and letting the catch dog go at 20 yards.

We run loose long range dogs. We don't have many hogs though, so they gotta leave out to find one. Its all personal opinions. With that being said, i have wanted a Lacy for a long time now n yall have two good looking ones.

I like GSP as well. Had the chance to own one but he had been started on birds and I wasn't sure I wanted to mess with it. Lacrash I agree, it is all preference. Here in south central Texas, especially Fayette county, we're just covered up in hogs. So the short range dogs work in my favor really in 3 different ways. Firstly they usually bay close(200-600) unless we get a real runner so I can get to my suicidal rough lacy dog before she gets cut to pieces. 2nd I have rights to hunt one ranch right now and the neighbor on the back side told me he would shoot my dog given the chance if it went on his property. So then being short range I can keep them from crossing fences I don't want them crossing most times. And 3rd. I can a lot of the times point them in the right direction. Those dogs that go a mile as soon as the box opens you can't do that(most times). I have patterned the hogs on this place and I know where the good spots to hunt are. And the hay patch way up top is not a good place for the dogs to be hunting in the morning cause the hogs ain't there. So I'm gonna point them to the tank the hogs have destroyed and see if they can line one out

Well what's funny is I'm not 100% sure the guy im referring to even owns the property, he might just hunt in it because the owner of the ranch I hunt for said something about a lady owning that property. Anyway, that guy has the mentality that any wildlife with in a country mile is his and he says he can eradicate the hog problem with his .308 ( which I laugh at because the night I talked to his he shot twice and missed both times)
