Hunting pairs ???

I got a young gyp I'm trying to sell. I got a guy who wants her and we've talked about the dog. The gyp is pretty timid, and she's not trash broke and I've made that clear to him. This gyp has been on about 5 hogs in the woods but I've never really payed a lot of attention to her on the Garmin. Anyway I want to maybe this evening take her and my lead dog out and hunt them. That way I can pay attention to what she is doing and make sure everything I'm telling this guy is correct and accurate. I've never hunted less than 3 dogs, also never gone by myself so I was wondering what yalls thoughts are on solo hunting a finished dog and pup pair?

She's about 15 month. Only reason I refer to her as a pup is cause she hasn't matured fully mentally. She still runs around and likes to play sometimes. Gonna run her with my 3 yr old lacy

Yep that will tell you what you are looking for but to be fair to the dog you should do this bout 10 times if you want a accurate account. After the fifth hunt if she not progressing then she still my need so grow up time jmo

I agree judge. I honestly am just looking to see her range. And how she bays. I really can't say that I know exactly how any of my dogs act in the woods. I know my red dog will strike hogs and I know we have caught them. But with how thick the woods are that we hunt. I've never walked into the bay to see the dogs work. Catch dog is alway there before us so I don't know which of my dogs is putting teeth on it compared to which ones are 10 yards back baying hard. I always see guys on here talking about pairing up the dogs you run together by their hunting and baying style. Making sure your not running 1 loose dog with 3 rough dogs and such. We had a big boar run over a mile on us last weekend. I want to know what caused that, whose causing the hog to break. Heck, I got a given to RCD from a guy on here. I don't think the guy lied about one thing he told me about either of the dogs he gave us. But I haven't seen that dog there before the bulldog to know if he really is catching straight up or if he's catching lettin go and baying and then re catching.  I guess I'm just looking to learn my dogs a little better

And I am selling that young gyp. The guy whose buying her makes most of his living off of hunting hogs. I want to make sure what I've told him so far is true because I don't want my name out there tagged with a story like "don't buy a dog from that kid. He sold me a dog and it didn't do anything he said" the guy is shooting me straight and I'm gonna shoot him straight to the best of my knowledge. Also, if I go put these 2 dogs on the ground at 3-4 this afternoon, i oughta see just how good my red dogs nose is.

I'm understand that blastin, and I know he does to. But that doesn't mean I wanna to just say "yeah she's a good dog take her" because I can. If she's a cull, well I'm gonna tell him she's a cull and I won't try and take his money.

Keep in mind tho friend that what you may consider a cull, another man could find use of. I think you've got your mind set on what you want to do, and honestly you're wanting to be strait forward young man with the guy! That's very respectful! There's a pile of folks out there that will take every penny you got and go home and sleep not knowing. Blastin you're 100% right about not knowing what you're biying. But me personally would study a dog I'm selling or know a little more about it before that name gets out there. Bad travels alot faster than good!

That's good you don't want to beat anyone out of their money. If you tell him pretty much what you told us on the first post about she's been on about 5 hogs and you really didn't know a lot about  her there's not much else to tell the man. Tell him she's timid and for him to take her and try her.

I like to turn a dog loose by itself and try it before i buy it and see what does, even a started one. Then put it with something else and compare the two. But a young dog is liable to make a hell of a loop one day just hunting and the next day be looking at you like its homesick haha.

Shoot the man straight, tell him you are unsure of the dog and give him a two week trial with her.     Don't spend his money till after the trial time limit is up and yall have spoke.     That's what I would do if I was you.

Another question is, why are you trying to sell a dog that you don't know how it hunts? Figured if you had any time, money, ect in the dog and you're trying to sell it then you'd already know the how the dog works... Although she may be a goodun or maybe a cull, if you don't already know how she hunts, what's the premise for selling her?

And personally, we love to run one or two decent older dogs with one pup on the ground. After about 2-4 times in the woods you're going to know what you're hunting, and it should show you something... If it doesn't then it brings us back to the question, why are you trying to sell the dog???

Ryan, the premise for selling is I believe this dog will really make something for someone who knows what they're doing as a dog handler. That is not me. This dog is pretty timid and she just doesn't seem too fond of me, she's great with my buddy most times but I've never been able to gain her trust. She also was started on cows and I'm scared I'll completely ruin her trying to break her off cows. I love this dog. She's honestly my favorite and idk why But I just can't seem to get her pointed in the right direction hunting hogs and not baying cattle. Hell, if I knew someone who could use and appreciate a good cow dog is give her to then. I mean that's what she came from was a tight bred old family of stock bred bmc catahoula cross dogs.

If I were you, especially if you like her that much, I'd spend some quality time with her... Treats, constant visits and petting... Get her to start coming to you when you call, then get her in the woods... Run her pads off! Keep a shock collar on her, and don't drop her in cattle. Once she gets on a few hogs then you can start working her around cattle on a lead and burn her if she even looks at them. If you have access to a pen with hogs in it, then shock her off cattle but then let her go bay some hogs. There are a bunch of ways you can do it, but positive reenforcement, IMO, is what it sounds like she needs. Those timid ones make some good dogs most times I've seen anyways. Means they're thinking, and may or may not like you. Lol good luck with her bud, but I can't say that I'd be trying to sell her though. JMO If all u want is for her to go to a good hunting home, try a bag of dog food for trade... We call that a good ol dog man deal around here. Most dogs I home, on rare occasion, are for a bag or two of feed. don't get me wrong, I've sold a dog or two, but for the most part, I just want them to get hunted hard, and for people to keep in touch with how they're doing.

Well I haven't talked to the guy who was wanting her in a few days. An thinking about it now, I'm fixing to go to stephenville for a month or 2 and I can take a dog with me. Won't have any way to hunt her or work with her other than just building a bond with her, which is definitely where I need to start. I think you guys along with my buddy have talked me into keeping her
