so my cat that got cut the other day under the chin seems like his salivary gland was cut or maybe the puncture goes throught to his mouth. theres saliva leaking out the cut under his chin. I didnt staple that one because it stopped bleeding pretty quick and it was staying closed on its own, he is on antibiotics. Anyone have this happen with the saliva leaking out? I figure if it doesnt stop in a week Ill go to the vet. what yall think?

Thanks for the heads up, today the saliva is a lot less, maybe it's just a puncture through the floor of the mouth so the saliva is leaking out. He's eating well and it's not infected so I'm going to wait a bit before I go to the vet. Online it said for a severed saliva duct you have to get the whole gland removed, a 3k$ surgery, that would suck

Anybody on here have a picture through the bottom jaw? Does it leak a lot of saliva?

Had it happen to an old Catahoula of mine. I just flushed several times a day with clean water. He healed up just fine. Although, some times I wish he hadn't!! LOL

Was it leaking a lot of saliva?

Had this same thing happen to my best Bulldog. She recovered pretty quickly from the wound with some meds and time. The bad though is she hasn't breathed right while hunting ever since. I'm not real sure if its a scar tissue thing or the gland but I sure have had to watch her now.

Leaked a lot of saliva for several days,

Thanks for getting back to me on that, it seemed to be getting better but I got a little worried and made a vet ap, but canceled it after I checked him today and it was a lot less saliva, hopefully he makes a full recovery, doesn't seem to bother him, he's eating plenty and his energy is fine

Well it looks like the wound has totally healed, took two weeks. We will have to wait and see if he develops a saliva pocket in his neck

well I made a bad call and took my cat hunting yesterday, we caught a small boar and his saliva duct made a pocket. pretty sure I F'd that one up, I shoulda gave it another month to heal. might have to get that pricey operation now. I guess its a lesson about patience

Liefalwepon I sent you the pic of my gyp a while back. She's almost healed up. Not a lot draining anymore and it's healed from the inside out. She hopefully will be ready to go by this weekend. Hope your dog gets back to the woods soon

Yes sir I can imagine so. Probably gonna drive him crazy staying home while your hunting. Just make sure he's ready so he can get back after it
