Ive got a smal 40 acre piece that my family owns that i can pretty much do as i please. Only down side is there are some houses around so running dogs is out. I put up a feeder a few months back and a camera on it, and almost instantly i had hogs coming in. Down side is there dont show up on any kind of a schedule, so I cut back the amount of times the thing went off and about three weeks ago they started showing up at regular intervals. I had three groups coming in with anywhere from 20 to 30 head in each group. One group would show up about 5 minutes before feed time, one about midnight and thaast at about 2am.
Went out three weeks ago and swapped out the cards and sure enough the night before i swapped them out it was the same pattern, went and hunted a week after i swapped cards based off the memory card times four nights straight and nothing. The last night i was there i pulled the card and not one dang hog. Checked it every week since, including just a minute ago and not one single hog.
Its not palmetto berry season so.... I and the few guys ive talked to are at a loss.
Anybody got any ideas?
On a side note, the deer and turkeys are hitting the feeder, and just in time for turkey season.

Theres no tellin but that many hogs could wipe out any sustainable food source on 40 acres pretty quick.

Hell don't feel bad, I have 1500 a and all I find is tracks , rubs and trails.... So far a dry run every time out... I begining to think they jus pass though and don't actually stay ....

In my experience you have to strike when the iron is hot, I've missed opportunities on huge bucks and hogs by not going for the kill, and thinking they will be there tomorrow or next week or next year, things change and game moves

That is pretty simple. Hogs are opportunist & they will keep coming to feed unless they have a better food source. If any of your neighbors have put pressure on them, they will move. My guess is they found other food they prefer & moved on.

Cajun is right, hogs follow the food. With the relatively warm winter we are having with multiple 70 degree days there is no telling what new food sources are popping up right now. The hogs will move until they find em, odds are that is what has happened to your place, I imagine they will make their rotation back through there at some point.

Neighbors dont mess with them, hunting or trapping. Its been a REALLY wet year for us this year and all the places around mine are flooded (mine is real wet too), so i dont know where they would find any food that i dont have on my place. We didnt get hardly any acorns this year either, and if they know there is free corn every night?  ?.. at a loss. |

Hell theres your answer in your post in my opinion..... the hogs moved out because of the water.
Yes in some places hogs dont mind the water as they are accustomed to it but think about it, would you want to live somewhere relatively dry with just enough water to be comfortable or would you want to live where you are in the water 80% of the time...... they moved to higher dryer ground.
I bet good money when the water goes down you will see hogs again.
