dirt bikes that can be street legal

IF any of yaw out there ride dirt bikes and have it registered for on road use, what brand do yaw recommend? the folks up here in the nw evidently like their ktm. i rode a yamaha 450 (not street legal, off road use only) this weekend and actually enjoyed the hell out of it, even though after 30 miles of mountain trails, i was beyond muscle failure and after dumping the bike 2x in less than 10', i had to call it quits. i hadn't rode a motor bike in 27yrs (yamaha 80 when i was 10yrs old) and didn't think it would be hard after giving my bosses chit for saying 50 miles was hard. well, 30 miles did me in and i was toast, but it was fun enough I'm thinking of buying a dirt bike for on and off road use. after 07, it seems ktm went to producing bikes that fit both on and off road use and made them registrable. one of my bosses has a ktm 530 something that is wa registered and it handled the trails just fine, as good as the other guys ktm mx 450. what i get doesn't have to be ktm, SO, how many of yaw that know dirt bikes, know which manufacturers produce street legal dirt bikes that handle trails like a mx bike? on the trails in the tillamook forest, 8 out of 10 bikes were ktm, so there must be a reason for this area at least, but I don't live in this area, only work up here.

I've owned just about every dirt bike made. Used to run motocross with them, and basically was on a dirt bike any time I wasn't in the woods.
I just got rid of a bike like this.

Very versatile bike with plenty of power for off road. Also plenty of speed to keep up with traffic on the interstate.

They can be registered for street use right?
Nannyslayer, yamaha doesnt seem to have many to choose from in their dual sport class. Is that 250 pegged out on the tach at 70+mph? I see it has a 6spd, just wondering how high the tach is at hi-way spds. Can the recluse (spell check) clutch be installed in that bike? That 450 i rode had one and it was NICE. Half manual, half automatic so to speak.

Yessir, its a slighty tuned up suzuki 400 dual sport but with smaller, wider rims and street tires. I had a honda xrl 650 and it was a good bike for the street, only problem was a very high seat higth. There are allotta dual sports out there now, ducati , ktm, kawasaki, suzuki. Honda, just to name a few that make em. And bmw. The higher end names make dual purpose bikes for fire road or dirt road, not really trail riding. A good messageboard to look at for info, research etc, is advrider.com

Not a 100% sure on the clutch but I think you can.
You can cruise at 70 pretty easy. You'll be running higher rpms but you'll still have plenty of room to get up and go.
