Anybody have a roan colored dog? Like buckskin or yellow or red hair with a lot of black in it? I got a pup on the ground that is red with a lot of black, I've yet to see him in person but looks like he's gonna be damn cool looking. And I'm excited about the cross he is. So let's see a roan dog or 2!!

That is real common in Cur Dogs but it is the first time I have heard it called roan, I think the technical term for dogs with black tipped or scattered black hairs is Agouti. Lots of BMC's come colored that way.

The last litter I raised all had it, the dam was a solid yellow 3/4 bmc 1/4 B&T coonhound, and I bred her to two different males a father and son who were both a deep red and white running walkers, I almost disposed of the pups when they were first born because of that, based on what I know about genetics I knew the likelihood of any of the Black and Tan coat color showing up wasn't really expected, possible but not expected, I was thinking my catch dog got to her because he had several littermates that were colored like that as was his dam, now at 3 months old not one of the pups has any black hair to them, they are all dark tint of orange, with all that being said they might grow out of that stage.

ALL my yeller cur pups, including those out of my red carnathan cur come out with black streaks/tips and one of my foundation bred cow dogs has a good bit of black streaking on his back, to his tail. Heck, even the half foundation cur male x with my dogo bitch came out streaked and most that have kept in contact with me, are multi colored, mostly brown/white and my male, other than the streaking, is bone white, and of course the dogo is. It must have been a hidden gene on the male side. But i bred him over to foundation bitch (daughter of yellow jacket) and the entire litter is actually yellow, taking after the dams genes.

I honestly can't say I've seen another dog with the "Agouti" coat in person. That's why I asked. The little guy is real crossed up. Daddy is something like 1/8 whippet 1/4 pit 5/8 brindle cur. And mom is some sort of lacy or lacy cur cross.  here's mom and dad

If he'd stay like he is now I'd have to keep him just to ride around on the truck lol. And I appreciate that judge. I'm excited about the cross. Parents ain't superstars but they've been solid for me. Daddy is catchy and mom is real rough, and with a vest she'll get hooked on a good sized pig. We plan on keeping as many as we can within our circle of friends and culling hard. The mom was my first strike dog. So her and pups from her mean alot to me so I want them to stay close.

Lapua is gonna be a pretty black roan by the time she is 3.   She was jet black for the first year of her life except for the white star on her chest.   After a year old she started getting peppered grey about the face.  It's pretty thick about her face already.   Now it is quickly developing down the length of her back.  Pretty cool looking.
