Britt Garcia and Mike Bolen came up to visit with Jameson and I this weekend and while there, we took advantage of the spoonbill run that's hot and heavy right now. They looked like they'd had plenty of fun when it was all over!

Kelly, I sure had a fine time! Reeling in a dozen of them big fish wore me out haha. I can't thank you, your family, Jameson and Amy, enough for y'all's hospitality... y'all made us feel right at home. Holler when you're down this way working and we'll try to catch a few.

You can keep 1 per day. They are good to eat if you clean them properly. We brine them all, then cook them however we want. You can even cook them like a steak on the grill. My wife smokes some of them and makes a dip that ain't too shabby on butter crackers. Most of the time it's a catch and release deal. They are a workout when you hit it right. We did hit them right this past weekend! Lot's of fun and sore muscles.

The spoonbill dip K-Bar's wife made was awesome, along with the fried morel mushrooms, fresh picked, and washed down with some diet Oklahoma beer... good times!

you can keep 1 per day but only 2 per year. They are edible but not tasty. The dip miss Kara makes is pretty darn good though.

Not being a know it all but I was raised in the river, before I could walk grandpa had me in the boat running whoop nets and webbing, at that time their was so many spoon bill cat fish they would actually jump in the boat going down the river. PM me if you want to know how to prepare them to be cooked. I'm assuming y'all were snagging them right.

over here in bama we use to snag them at the dam, it didnt matter if you had to cut his guts out to get the hook out we had to throw them back they said it was a big fine here to keep them, i always wondered how they tasted and if it was any other way to catch them beside snagging them
