Things sure have changed

It is a given that as the hands of time go forward, so will change happen.  I've been thinking about this for a while, but I wasn't exactly sure on how to put my thoughts into words.  So here goes, not placing blame, not targeting anyone or any group.  Just some general thoughts and observations- that are general in nature and don't even apply to just this site.

Pictures of dogs- seems like years ago, when someone posted a pic of a dog, you could just about take it to the bank that it was going to be a 1st string- grade A hog dog.  Now days, I see pics of a lot of dogs posted that don't look like they have ever even seen a hog.  The ones I really wonder about are pic of bulldogs in a brand new vest that don't even have a spec of mud on it.  I guess everyone likes to post stuff now days and everyone has the right to post.  Every time I look at a bulldog post, I am hoping to see a scared up warrior bulldog that looks like he lived through hel! a couple times.  I'm not meaning I want to see cut up dogs, it is just my opinion that years ago, if a bulldog was posted, he was real deal.  A lot of stuff on sites now days that I would wonder about.  I guess people are proud of their dogs- seems like a lot of pups get their pictures taken and posted.  Years ago, a dog didn't get a picture until he was proven....none the less get his pic posted.   Why do people feel the need to take a pic of a male and female locked up breeding?  I mean, I can go without seeing that.  You seen it once, you seen it a million times.

Pics of hogs- sort of the same with dogs.  IT SEEMS TO ME- that years ago, we didn't post pics of sows and little pigs under 150.  The old pics taken were of rank boars and real deal barrs- those are the pics I still like looking at.  I'm sure Facebook probably has a lot to do with this.

Old timers vs young bucks- Seems like it use to be where the old timers talked and young bucks listened and posted little.  Now it seems like the little green grass hoppers post all the time while the bucks and dinosaurs are getting quiet.  Again, phones, social media, FB- times have changed.

Repeated post on the same issue and the same arguments occur.  For example- dogs with papers vs dogs without papers.  It seems like it is just a popular thing to talk about.....we kind of stopped talking about the what came first, the chicken or the egg....but we sure talk about papers.

I look forward to responses and I would like to hear other examples of what things have changed.

Ain't much changed fella it's all a repeating cycle in life as general just depends when you jumped in. The biggest thing in the last 3 or four yrs is smart phones. I member catching big hogs or big fish deer or what ever and every one would hate on your story if they weren't there. This is why so many pics are posted by young and old new and long timers. But I get what your saying bout earning the right to get that pic. Ain't nothing wrong with being proud of your stuff no matter where you fall on the scale. It don't matter any way ain't like it gets you a better spot in the sky lol

Examples like the time you addressed me when I was helping a guy troubleshoot a problem with his catch dog turns some away.   I am friends with a few of the exceptionally knowledgeable dogmen that have been on here and contributed in the past and the example I'm speaking of is a perfect example of the disrespect that has contributed to them never coming back on here and sharing their knowledge.        
      You have cur guys on here, hound guys on here, rough guys, loose guys, aussie style guys long range and short range guys, walk hunters and people who ride, etc etc etc.    It's a melting pot of the different styles of hog dogging and different areas from the US and places like Australia and when someone very successful and knowledgeable from one style starts fielding questions asked of him by someone else interested in his or her particular style, someone will inevitably come along from a different style of hog dogging and give there opinion as if it was fact when they didn't or couldn't do it that way successfully or have never experienced such a style or just had one bad experiences with it.   Maybe they didn't like running a pig for 3 miles one time or maybe they seen a dog get hurt once and develop a strong opinion based on 1 time, or went with a person who was unsuccessfully trying their hand at running rough dogs formed an opinion based of one shady guy or bad experience in any of the respective forms of dogging.   Kinda like the rough dogs vs loose dogs debate.      People not willing to accept that there are right ways and wrong ways to go about the two different styles normally start drama because they base fact off their limited failed experiences and try to fly that in the face of people who do it very successfully that are actually giving good info on what makes it work.    Often times the question is only about rough dogs or longe range dogs and someone with a failed past with such will chime in and start trying to do the educating and all the while incapable of answering the question.        Normally I see the guys of their particular style the ones teaching and helping on subjects they know well.  This goes for both sides and all areas.    Thus we tend to loose the good guys from all styles of hog dogging as a result of this anoyance.
     Another thing I hear from them is they will give  good sound advice  when answere a question posted by someone.  Others will try to feild the question also but give bad advice that's simple, fast, and easy to try that has very little do if any at all in addressing the question and guess who the author of the question seeks council from.   Yep, the simple fix that fixes nothing.  Happens time and time again so the knowledgeable guys just take on the attitude of why bother and eventually this helps to keep them away.  Some of these guys when they got their fill of this seem to start their exit from the forum by giving only an answere with no explanation and then not long after that they left the forum for good.
      The greenhorns that talk a lot  that are able to explain very little, they all say have been around since the start.  Some contribute it to a lack of rules  brought forth to such an open forum to the general puplic, while others just say these people are nothing new and not much has evidently changed.     Often times when they did leave here, some went to other forums that were not open to the puplic, as in you were veted before you gained any rights to join, comment, and veiws pics.     Once they got into stuff like that and had another outlet to talk about dogs , hog dogging, breeding, medical treatment, etc it was the nail that sealed the door on this forum for them.
      I've experienced the same things they have shared with me.  It's not the greenhorns that bug me.  It's the guys that are pretty good in there respective fields that talk smack about other ways of dogging pigs  or other styles of dogs used that burn me out.    Often times when I get a little respect and appreciation for someone and their respective styles and dogs, they run their mouth about you and your knowledge and style when you start sharing info or helping others understand, or they do it to someone else, doesn't have to be just you.
      It's a culmination of this kinda stuff and more that has resulted in several good dog men leaving this forum over the years that are still very active in hog dogging.            I'm not emplying this sight is better or worse than others,  please don't read into it that way.  I've just answered your question best I can from what's been discussed with me.  I'm still a contributing member to this sight so take that very thing for what it's worth.   I have been able to relate to their experiences though.  
     There are many more reasons why things play out the way they do on forums other than what I've regergitated here but these are some of the main things shared by those I'm friends with or have spoke with that I have indeed seen and experienced myself.

Pretty simple regarding pics of pigs,pups and dogs.......10 years ago  no one was walking around with a phone that could connect to a forum such as this, click 1 button on said phone and instantly post a picture AND there were nowhere near as many "hawgdawgers"

For me it's the memories that the one picture can hold I am only 25 and I know I wish there was a lot more pictures with my gramps when I was younger and I now take a pictures all the time why because I know that's a something I can look back on its like when the Polaroid cams came out I know my parents had tons of photo albums of all kines of stuff and I am glad they did because now I can have those  moments brought back and I want to do the same for my kids there all young so they get attached to the dogs but if they get killed at least they have the pictures to remember the dog by or in 70 years they can look at them and say yup that's my dad with that young bull dog when it was just a pup seeing it's first hog  also I have bin in some stuff over seas that makes you thank god that you have a picture of your wife to hold on to just some thoughts of a young grasshopper  o and I don't have social media besides this
