I got a wild hair here recently and packed my bags. I'm now living outside of Choteau, Montana for the summer taking care of 2,500 head of yearling steers on federal leases. You would be amazed at the wildlife in this area. I've been here a week and have seen elk, mule deer, black bear, grizzlies, mountain goats, lions, bobcats, and moose. Got a hook up with a local guy to go run hounds on bobcat next weekend. The ranch I'm working for is owned by David Letterman. A whole lot of butt kissing but they leave me alone. I stay in the mountains 6 days a week. It's 55 and gorgeous here today.

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog... A hunting dog is born not made...

I agree with the above comment. Sounds like you are in heaven! Mountains and working stock. I spent a month in Alaska and loved it! I couldn't imagine Montana in person! All the pics look great on the Internet.

When Dave was on his way to retirement Rolling Stone wrote up a nice long article about him that I read. In it they discussed his Montana ranch quite a bit. Turns out despite being a talk show host for so many years Dave was actually more of an introvert than an extrovert. He liked to get a way to Montana to find solitude and rejuvenate himself.
I think it's becoming fairly common for celebrities to buy mega ranches up in Montana.

Man that's freaking awesome! Like Justin said, what I wouldn't give! Me, a couple dogs, and a easy riding stick, sound like the life bud. Be safe and have a time!

Been a long time Art. We turned them dogs loose and man oh man they are long winded. My butt was tired as heck. Beautiful place though. See grizzlies all the time but a dang young bull moose gave me some heck. They're the ones you have to watch out for. Montana has some very nice people, but I'm very proud to be Texas raised. Give em hell guys.
