I responded the other day but guess it didn't go thru for some reason. I'm glad he is coming along for you. I hadn't even started his sister yet. Need to take her to the woods soon. His dad will open some like that also. Don't bother me because we usually catch the hog and then I forget about it.

The guy that owns the gyp he is out of kept a female out of the litter as well. She is already striking her own hogs in the woods. Guess maybe I'm waiting to long to start mine. They won't be a yr old till August though.

I hear yah CRC. If I was catching most the hogs were striking lately I might not be so worried about it either. But I can't blame him. The older dogs just aren't getting it done lately like they normally do. 4-5 mile races used to be long for me, and The dogs were still seeing it through. Lately it's 2 miles and they're coming back. It's frustrating but that's a dog for yah. I'm gonna go in the morning to my camp house. Hogs destroyed every bit of 90 acres last big rain. Before that we hadn't seen a hog out there in 6 years. Probably gonna take pancho and my best foot warmer and see if they can strike a hog off my feet.

Not any curr in these dogs mostly all cat with a touch of hound in there.
The heat probably has a major role in them not sticking in the race as long as they were before. Keep hunting them they'll be alright.

Ok. Chris been lying to me then lol. Bottom line is he's doing good, I'm happy so far with him. No has he totally flipped the switch to hog crazy? No. But he will have every chance to flip the switch until 15-18 months old, and if by then he's not impressing me then I'll reevaluate. He's one of them slow starters, I can just feel it. He still really don't have his legs under him completely and he's real puppy still. But he has the right idea and that's all I want from him for right now

How can you call a 9 month old pup a slow starter?

He's slower compared to the pup I had who was about a month younger than him and was completely hog stupid at 5 months old. Like I said he's got the right idea. Just hasn't flipped that switch all the way on yet.

Some day I'll be as smart as you are about my catahoulas I recon. Until then I'll call a Catahoula a Catahoula. Sorry if that offends you "dog men". Or should I call them a Louisiana Catahoula leopard dog or a Catahoula hound or a Catahoula leopard hound? All names that refer to a Catahoula, do those make you happy? I know a Catahoula is a cur but how often do you hear anyone refer to catahoulas as curs honestly?

I call a catahoula a cat and a black mouth cur a yeller dog. Any other type of cur gets called by the full name ex. Cracker cur, Parker cur.... So on.... If you tell me "he's a Catahoula Cur" I'm thinking your referring to a black mouth cur and catahoula cross bred dog

I hope and think so too. He starts doing it on his own real good we might have to plan a hunt together. See if we can get him and some litter mates in some hogs
