I just saw a goat on my way home. I pulled over to see it and see if I could get hold of it to check with a guy a few miles away that has goats. But when I stopped it took of and ran into the woods. I have have caught lots of wild things by hand even some I wish I had not grabbed hold of, but never a wild goat. I can't use dogs there even with permission because there are too many busy roads. I am going to have to hide and wait or sneak up on it. Now she does have some some large horns. If I get the back legs do goats turn on you and use the horns? I know to wear clothes and expect to get kicked. But I need some advice on how to catch a wild goat in the woods.

With a wild goat, id use a trap, lariat rope or a heavy weighted cast net. If you can get close enough to grab it by hand, you should be able to use the rope or net and prevent or greatly reduce the chances or getting injured. More than likely, you'll have to cut the net away if your doing by yourself. Hobble it and then start removing the net.

Trap was all I could think of. Too many trees for a rope or net. The goat was up against the trees and ran right back into it. I was thinking about throwing some feed out for a few days with a game cam. If the goat shows up then put a trap. Guess I will have to build one with a roof. Don't think a corral trap will work.

Charles thought about giving you a call the other day. I drove through your area. I should be back through there middle of next month. If I have time for lunch I will give you a shout.

A goat won't hurt you a bit. If you are worried carry a rope and rope its head. If not just grab the back leg and pull it close to grab the horns and then straddle it and you can walk it to wherever you want.

Chasing a goat naked? I have done dumber things Grin I have seen what a deer can do with feet. I have never messed with a goat. If they don't kick and only ram with the horns then maybe going naked would make it fun, I believe it is a girl Wink

For real I figured on getting kicked. But just like a pig move fast, grab hard, and don't let go. I will bring some mule tape. I sneak up on pigs by moving when they are rooting to cover my noise. But I ain't never seen a goat root. So not sure how hard it will be but I will try at least once before I get a trap. Mostly because it seems like fun. All good real stories start with "hey y'all watch this!"

My wife said I was crazy but if it could be done I would probably do it. When we are driving and I suddenly pull over and jump out she never knows what I will come back with. She thinks a goat is better than some other things I have brought home. I will be out there tomorrow just sneaking around with some mule tape. I will keep my clothes on because my wife gets mad when I get naked naked and chase other girls.

A sheep dog. Or trap them on pool salt. http://www.rangelandgoats.com.au/infrastructure/trap-yard-design

A small jump down trap will work if you can get it onto salt. Its like crack to a goat.

you can get two sticks about 3 feet long shove it in the at an angle set a loop hanging on the sticks with feed under it ....I have caught horses  like that they  will stick there  head through the loop and eat and usually pick there head  strait up and look around to chew the feed up and the loop comes off the stick back of there  necks and they are caught ...... I have caught goats with dogs before ... two goats showed up in  the piney woods here by the house  one time dog caught one the billy and bayed the nanny  in the gully ..... after I fed  them up good naturally the owner come round  for them back  hahahha

In west Texas we use round pins with no gate and then we build a ramp to the top of the pin on the out side of the pen and then pour little corn up the ramp and the rest in the trap catch them every time
