yes.
I have always ran finder/holders. My little brown bitch is a bay dog at heart. Since she has always ran with holders she will only bay on her own and is a soft holder when she does go in.
I cant stand barking dogs, i know its a different story on a hunt but the quieter the better for me, especially when im after more than 1 pig from a mob. Most aussies seem to run finder/holders

I figured you did but just thought I would ask I watch alot of the pig hunting dvd and most the guys on there run um besides the guy that runs masons cats I can't recall his name and i ran the same type dogs but in hawaii what comp u in?

Maybe you could chime in on the science of the stop it seams like some of the stuff u hunt is thick n up and down

The competition im entering is just a local one to my area the (swine time 2- the Dunedoo pig comp)
My 1st entry into a competition. Am checking my trail camera Monday so will hopefully see something comp worthy on it.

I did read some of the science of the stop thread but only have mobile phone access to the forum till Monday.  I might add my thoughts on the subject when I get back to a computer.
Ill definitely put up some more photos of my dogs and my country as well.

my best producing block. only around 1100 acres but that would probably double if you flattened it out. substantial changes in elevation on this property.
 3 creeks, one at each end and 1 in the middle along with around 7 dams.
 one of the wettest septembers on record here in my state. spring time here in Australia so plenty of feed coming up with all this rain, over 90 mm's of rain so far for september. the pigs are scattered far and wide.I dumped some corn and molasses out to try and get them into a routine  before the up-coming competition. way too much feed and water around to get pattern on the pigs at the moment. nothing really worth getting excited about on my trail camera.

that's beautiful  ...we don't even have a park that looks that good ...... I'd  love  to have sit a good  horse  back  when I was  younger  and  rode  that country ....

headed out hunting for my local boar competition Friday night.headed out at almost 9 0/clock and caught a young boar 5 minutes into the hunt and thought i was going to be in for a good night. I ended up getting bogged just under an hour later. with no winch on my ute it was a long walk back to the farmers hut (1.6 kilometers as the crow flies) me and my young fella followed the track as it was the easiest going but probably added another kilometer onto the walk.
the farmer was in bed when we got back (around 11 o/clock).
i had organised for the farmer to wake up with me at 4am to drop us at the head of one of the gully's  so i could walk it down and he would pick us up at the bottom, but getting bogged through that idea out the window.
we got my ute out pretty easily and we agreed to meet back at his hut and he would take us up the other end of the property we missed out on last night. on the drive back  the dogs flew off the back and grabbed this fella. he gave the dogs a touch-up so we called it quits for the trip.
ended up winning the prize for longest tail at the competition

never got to hunt the spot i baited with the corn. some good ones left for when the dogs heal up

good hog ...... I have often ondered  I see pics of hogs on back of your trucks field dressed after miles on dusty roads how do they get the dirt out of there insides ??..... we owned a state inspected slaughterhouse and  man the insides is hard to clean if they been field dressed .....

Chris- its illegal to transport live feral hogs in Australia. just incase they accidently get away and to stop people introducing pigs to areas with little or no pigs.
Parker- i dont take pigs in for processing  so im not sure about the dust but in my state at least you cant have the pigs outside the confines of your vehicle. that would reduce the exsposure to dust by having them up and out of the way, although im sure the few at the very back would get a bit of a coating.
all the pigs from the competition were only getting buried somewhere out bush so didnt matter.

some photos from the competition.The town that hosted it is only small with a population of around 2000 so was never going to be a massive turnout although there was 39 teams registered to hunt. a few got bogged and couldnt make it back with their catch or failed to catch due to the wet conditions. spectator numbers were down from the last one due to the weather aswell. was still a great day. several taxidermists were present and one did a caping demonstration on my boar. im hoping to get a photo of the finished product when he is done mounting it( he liked the color so i let him have it)

Looks like Charles is doing good he's putting out some nice plates..what was your boars weight?

Yeah. Charles was flat out all day. As well as selling his products he was also doing repairs and alterations to collars and plates all day. He even measured up a dog and made the plate at his stall on the day.
All pigs are weighed empty, no internal organs at all. Mine ended up going 59.5kg's.
