I just figured I'd share this local news topic on this forum,

http://www.koco.com/article/new-rules-for-feral-hog-hunting-cause-an-uproar/6981247

There's been a lot of discussion going on up here in Oklahoma. It's been an ongoing process to regulate this sport and I guess give the government money

They are 20 years too late to try to regulate hog movements by humans. The hogs are everywhere now and will continue to spread on their own. Someone recently said something about hogs that makes sense. He said the only real threat to these hogs is an open market. If there is money to be made by hunting and trapping them, people will put a dent in their population. Our market now is only to canned hunt facilities and now they want to make it more difficult to deliver to them. At least they still recognize the general public as a resource to control the hogs. Several states are outlawing hunting of feral hogs altogether. That makes no sense to me, I figure everyone that takes a hog by whatever means they prefer is helping to control them.

Brandi Stacy is smoking hot! Ok, now that I got that out of the way, it sounds like Oklahoma state wildlife officials have been talking to the guys in California. I fear for you

They would love to outlaw hunting hogs with dogs in Cali and just let the government trappers use dogs on them, makes no sense

there is people that has been pushing for the states to be able to hire professional hunters  like game agents that can trap or hunt on any property ... they tried it here back in the 80's but we stopped it .... there is always some self gain agenda behind these things .......

I'd like to fast forward 5 years from now and see where it goes. Since that's not possible I'm going to enjoy it as much as I can.  I'm already planning on moving back to Texas when my kids are all done with school, which is 2024!

Here's an example of what I've learned with the laws and how they are changing.

I'm not sure about down there in TX, but from the way I understand Oklahoma law, if you want to hunt hogs at night the landowner has to apply for a permit. After the permit is approved he can then get help with the hogs.

And there's no hunting at all on public land at night.

With all that has been said, I'm afraid that some of the folks down here in Texas, that hunt with dogs, have no idea how close this is to becoming a reality in Texas.  What I mean is, without a voice, sooner or later, probably sooner than we think, there is a great possibility that they outlaw hog hunting with dogs.  Look what happened to deer dogs in east Texas during the late 80's.  Just look at the chain law that was passed not to terribly long ago in Texas.  This forum is great for us dogmen to get on and talk dogs, but social media is killing this kind of sport.  When people constantly post pictures and videos on Facebook and what not, of dogs catching hogs, or someone trying to sell a bulldog and post a video of it tearing up a pig in a pen, it's just fuel to the fire for animal rights activists.  If an animal is in the wrong,7 due to its owner, that's one thing.  I don't want to see a starving dog because the owner can't take care of it.  I'm a cowboy, so I hate when I see a horse for sale that looks like it can't even carry my saddle....but when these "Rights" people get involved, and want to take away what my dogs love and were bred to do....that's when I have a thorn in my side.  The TDHA is dead, but a new group, the TWDA has  started to grow, and I encourage all, whether you hunt or not, live in Texas or not, sign up and join.  It will serve as a voice for all dogmen/dogwomen to stand up to Austin,Tx when they try to cut the head off of hunting with dogs.  I'm a young gun to most, but I grew up hunting with dogs.  I also consider Mr. Douglas Mason a close mentor/friend.  And to hear the way he so passionately speaks about needing to have a voice to prevent these types of things, makes me a firm believer.  I hope we can just carry on the tradition, that way when my kids are old enough, they can enjoy this sport as well.  They won't have to hear the stories that I hear from my uncles and father about "how we use to run deer dogs" but it's illegal now.

Well put JW, it needs to be sung out because there are people working full time to take away the freedoms we enjoy.
