I was lookin around online and have never heard or seen anything about the SWAMP DAWG cut vest on here...just wondering if anyone has used one. The idea for the pocket on the vest to hold a break stick or whatever is pretty neat.

i have a buddy that ordered a vest from ugly dog and the first time that it was used we caught a 250 pound boar with 4 inch cutters, at the end of it all after one pig it had 7 holes all the way threw. there is not a vest around that will compare with a larry paris vest

That was my dog that got cut up wearing the Guardian Kevlar vest from Ugly Dog/Wild Boar USA. The vest had several cut's all the way through up and down the left side and a 2 inch CUT THRU underneath the dog behind his front leg. I'm lucky my dog is still alive, and I expected MUCH more out of a $170 vest. I like the design and quality of the vest but the cut resistance flat out SUCKS!! I had the big cut in the vest stitched up and I'm having another layer of 1050 ballistic nylon put in by a guy at a local upholstery shop. Bottom line I'm gonna have $200 into this and it doesn't provide half the cut resistance of other vest I have seen. (Southern Cross or Larry Paris) and I'm sure their are other good ones, those are just a few that I know of first hand.

I'm not trying to whine about my vest and Dog getting cut up! Dogs get cut that's just part of it, but a $170 vest getting tore up like this on its first night out is a joke. I'm posting this because I wish somebody else would have spoke up before I wasted my money. If your looking for a vest that "looks" like it will protect your dog the Guardian is for you. If your looking for cut resistance look else ware.

Tried them all, they all will tear to some extent. The bigger the boar the bigger the tear. Bottom line is did the vest save your dog? Then it was worth the money that was spent. That's just me talking though. Not all bullet proof vests stop all bullets, but if it saves your life?

Hey I am just curious as to why you didn't take the vest back to UDR?? Also if you've got that many holes in the vest covering it with another layer of Nylon really isn't gonna protect the dog any better on the next trip out. I have dealt with a few different representatives of WBUSA on more then a few occasions and they have always been more then helpful and accomadating even when I needed something special. Good luck on getting your vest back in working condition and back in the field.

I didn't think they would take back a cut up vest. The vest got cut, and like coach said it happens to pretty much most of the vest out there. I didn't think they would take it back due to it being cut. If they did it would be tough for them to stay in business. I have the vest and I'm trying to make the best of it by improving cut resistance. Adding another layer of 1050 ballistic nylon will at least imprve the cut resistance a little, because it is completly inadequate the way it is right now!

Should have said the bigger the tusks the bigger the tear although figured most on here would understand, judging by the way some people spell and type on here. LOL
Might not want to add anything to it becomes to bulky sometimes try sending it in to a saddle shop and getting it resewn?

Swamp dog vests are the old razorback vests.  I have some that are 7 to 8 years old. Just sent one to Carla Hilburn (the old hoot gibsons) to have a check for holes and sew up a rip in the outer layer.  She was very impressed with it. Said its one of the toughest vests she has seen.  I also like southern cross, but I have to be real careful with the leg holes on that one, on some of my dogs they rub a little. I have not tried the ugly dog vests yet so can't respond there.  Larry Parish does a great job on his but they seem to work best on my leaner dogs.  Bottom line to me is use the vest that fits your dog the best. If it doesn't fit right it will NOT protect your dog. If you are not sure of how it should fit talk to a representative for that vest, I won't give my business to anyone that won't help me with questions.  If you have a problem with a product I think you should tell them, that way they know that there might be an issue. Likewise if you really like something about your vest you should let them know. The more information they have the better the product they build.

Call Robbie from X-Treme Outdoors.  903-987-2602.  He has proven cut vest.  I don't want to insult anyones know how about hunting gear, but I have seen a lot of people using "bay vest" instead of "cut vest".  X-Treme's cut vest have plates that are not getting holes...  I have tried a lot.  A good bay vest is from H & H Kennels too.  Hope this helps -

For the most part. It absorbs the bullets energy and causes mushrooming and stops the bullet. I knife does not mushroom and can part the fibers. Bullet proof, not knife proof

I have seen videos where they shoot a .357 into a 25# bag oflead shot with a sheet of plywood behind it. Ten an arrow.

The bullet is stopped in about 2 inches. The arrow penetrates the bag of shot and sticks into the plywood.

I would think the same would apply to tushes

me too !! thats why i cant see spending that kind of money on a kevlar vest . sounds tough but really no better than ballistic nylon. my hoot vest benn with me long time 5 years outer layer got more stitches than granny's bloomers but inner two never got punctured, and it's been through hell !! not trying to advt. for carla's now i think it is but 200.00 for a kevlar vest come on !!

I talked to a guy from hard core dogs that makes and runs kevlar vest, and he says that he has seen a few go through but that it rarely happens and that if you get holes though his vest send it back and he pays shipping. Now that sounds good to me, Ive got 1yr old vest from x-treme that are full of holes. Are my dogs alive, yes but would I rather have a vest less likly to get punctures. Does anyone run the vest from Hardcoredogs.com

I've got a few collars from mike they seem to be holding up. Two yrs and nothing through it I use southern cross and never had a problem but like said above it will rub a lil if it don't fit but mike from hardcore said that he runs his bayvest on his CDs so he must have something good and he also said that it doesn't rub them raw so I'd say it's worth a try
